Extend Greencard then Naturalize?

I am married and have been living as a Permanent resident in the US for 12yrs. My green card expires in June ( thank goodness I looked at it) but I am looking to complete the naturalization process. My question however is: Do I need to renew my greencard before I complete the N-400, given it's expiring quite soon, or can I go ahead and complete the N-400 and the greencard will continue to be ok?

You can naturalize without renewing your green card.  Had you filed N-400 6 months prior to the expiration of your green card, you would have been entitled to free annual I-551 stamps.  
 

If need evidence of LPR status after your green card expires, you will have to file I-90 and pay the fee.  Depending on your field office and the situation with your job, drivers license expiration, mortgage application, or travel plans you might or might not need to file I-90.

Thanks. So just to clarify,  as of now, I should go ahead and just complete the N-400 and let the green card can run through its expiry date? If for some reason I need to show proof of residency ( though I am not changing job or mortgage in near future) I will have to then complete the I-90 at that time? I just don't want to get into an issue with the USCIS. I am a rule follower 🙂

Yes that is what I would do in your situation.
