Hi Everyone,

What an interesting "achievement poll" indeed!

Ok, here are my votes and answers:

1) Already achieved:

-Being together and married with my husband.... (L) (3+ years and counting, since April 2006...together forever!)

2) Soon-to-be achieved:

-Being pregnant (after 2 years of trying, and 3 miscarriages later....) and having our baby born very soon (in July 2009..yikes!).... :luv:

-US Citizenship (hopefully by January 2010 if all goes well with the USCIS)...

3) Still to be achieved:

-Write my book (Oh there are so many stories to tell....It's been an interesting life, indeed!)....

-More travelling (There are so many places in the world I have still yet to see....).... :pop:

In summary, all my life achievements can be said in this statement: "To be happy, healthy, and successful...."...:)

Now it's your turn...What are your achievements? What do you want to achieve?

Ant (Achieved yet?...)

Hi Nessa,

That's a good question. Lol....not in a million years....if when I was younger someone told me: "you'll move to the USA, get married, have a baby, and become a US Citizen...."

I would have said..."Yeah right. I'd have better chances of winning the lottery!"

But life changes....paths and goals in life change....and well....

"I won/will win another life-long achievement lottery..." ....very lucky indeed!...

see, this is what i don't get it. u think turning into a usc equals winning the lottery? i mean, if someone told u'd have all that in your country with a local person you'd still miss the fact it wasn't in the states?

Hi Nessa (and Everyone),

Hmmm...interesting points....let me see if I can explain further....

As I said before, I mentioned that one of my life achievements is:

2) Soon-to-be achieved:

-US Citizenship (hopefully by January 2010 if all goes well with the USCIS)...

And with all the long waits, papaperwork, expenses, harassment, stresses, difficulties, hardships, etc. that the USCIS has put us (and everyone else I'm sure) through the years while going through this whole immigration process, then yes, in the end, the reward of being a USC is like a big achievement to me (which I would rather have than winning the lottery anyways, but comparable to that nevertheless)....

Lol..."close but not quite".....I had that with a "local person", as my husband and I were only a few hours away by land (about 3 hours) from each other when we were "long-distance". Heck, we even watched the same tv shows, listened to the same radio stations, read the same newspapers and magazines, went to same/similar places, etc. (well, you get the point) over the years before and after we met..., so in many ways we were "local" with each other already. Unfortunately, there was a thing called the "US/Canada Border" that we had to cross and something called the "USCIS" and "immigration" that we still have to deal with....

In a sense, I did have all that in my country, be it that we lived so close to each other and had so many cultural similarities with each other already. But legally, I didn't have it in my country, be it that we were literally in separate countries and there were so many legal obstacles in our way. "So close, yet so far", is how I like to sum that one up....If it wasn't because of the fact that my husaband was in the USA and I was in Canada, then I probably wouldn't care about and/or miss the fact that I wasn't a US Citizen, as at that time I was satisfied with being just a Canadian citizen as I had no legal ties to the USA (other than visiting from time to time as a tourist, of course).

Interestingly enough, I became a Canadian citizen through naturalization as a young child. Yet I don't see that as an lifelong achievement, as at that time I didn't fully understand that choice being a minor child and overall being a Canadian is how all that I've grown up to be, is all that I've known, and have been identified as.

I think that with US Citizenship, it's more so going through the challenges of the entire immigration process that makes me appreciate this patriotic choice and personal achievement more.

With US Citizenship I feel more like I "belong, be proud of, grow up in, know, and identify" myself in the USA where I will spend the rest of my life in and have my family in, which are important to me also.

And to have to not worry about being away and/or separated from my family, due to immigration issues and the stresses that come with it, is definitely worth being a US Citizen for too....

Also, US Citizenship is especially more so an achievement after waiting so many years and paying so much for such....

Anyone else think that being a US Citizen is a big achievement as well?

Ant (US Citizenship=Ant's Achievement....)

see, this is what i don't get it. u think turning into a usc equals winning the lottery? i mean, if someone told u'd have all that in your country with a local person you'd still miss the fact it wasn't in the states?

My biggest achievement? That since I became an adult, I have done every single thing I have ever seriously set my mind out to do, no matter how well or ill planned out. There is still much to do, but I have accomplished a lot already and I am proud of it.

I've had many achievements along the way, but I would say that the biggest, hardest, and most life changing on thusfar was recovering from my surgery.

I say 'thusfar' cos I'm not done yet, ;)

And from your story about your surgery its a miracle that you are alive!!! So, yes that is a HUGE achievement!!:)
