She should have applied in person first thing when she came to the US. Only after that you would be in the save system since they’re verifying her status. Unfortunately, she will have to wait until she gets her EAD or GC in hand to apply. Hopefully the SSN card will arrive if you applied for it in the forms you sent to USCIS, but there have been reports when people did not receive it and had to go in person.

I must have misunderstood. I thought she had to wait for her to appear in the Save Check beforehand. I was thinking she had to be in the system first. I'll give it a try after she get's her NOA1's from the AOS

It is a bit confusing, since you need to be in the SAVE system in order for the SSA to check against you. It is annoying you can't self-verify that you're in the system, but that's just the way it is.

Best of luck getting the SSN when the time comes. In the meantime, you should still be able to do a lot of things that people tend to say needs an SSN, but in fact do not eg. health insurance, bank account (varies by institution, but I got a bank account before SSN), driving license (depending on state).

Yes, that is what I was told. You need to be in SAVE for SS to verify you. Now some people on this thread are saying that you don't get into SAVE until you apply.

You get put into SAVE when you enter the country. You must be in SAVE for SS to verify you.

BUT, you cannot see yourself in SAVE Casecheck until you have applied for a benefit (eg. SSN/DL). Or, in other words, you just need to apply for SSN ASAP upon entering the country and hope you are in the system. You can't wait around to see yourself in Casecheck, as you don't appear until you apply for a benefit.

Good luck to you getting the SSN when GC/EAD arrives.

Thanks for the clarification. We will go try to get it when she gets her NOA1 from the AOS and EAD. Can't hurt to try. Maybe we will get lucky.

Sure thing. Like I said, confusing. Best of luck to you!
