Requesting Embassy Change

Our case is currently with Egypt ast that is where my husband is from (CR1). They are extremely backlogged and also unresponsive. I have now seen a few Egypt  cases, upon the request of the beneficiary, be switched to Djibouti. Does anyone know about this and if it is worth trying? I thought they would need to be in the other country for 6 months to qualify for a consulate change, but none of those I know of are currently in Djibouti.

Interviews are normally done where the beneficiary resides or home country.  You can't consulate shop.

In summary, it took 13 months for approval of the CR-1.  It took 44 months for approval of the I-751.  It took 4 months for approval of the N-400.   It took 172 days from N-400 application to Oath Ceremony.   It took 6 weeks for Passport, then 7 additional weeks for return of wife's Naturalization Certificate..

You need to be residing legally in that country to interview in that consulate. Staying there 6 days or 10 years doesn't matter. What matters is "are you a resident there?"

Immigration journey is not: fast, for the faint at heart, easy, cheap, for the impatient nor right away. If more than 50% of this applies to you, best get off the bus.

I understand this. That's why I wrote it in my initial question. I was referring to those I know, also Egypt who have successfully transferred their cases to Djibouti even though they do not reside there. But thank you.

I've seen members from Yemen change from Egypt to Djibouti but I'm not sure if it is possible for Egyptian nationals to change consulates.

Perhaps you should ask those people what they did. They seem to have first hand knowledge of this.

Yemenis don’t have a consulate so they have more flexibility to choose interview location, and Djibouti routinely takes them.

Djibouti has not been willing to accept Ethiopian cases except in very limited emergency cases despite the Ethiopian embassy evacuating staff at the end of last year on top of a tremendous backlog as well (they are stalled on July 2020 DQ IR cases in Addis). Therefore, I doubt they would accept your request using the argument of backlog in Egypt, unfortunately.

Is there a US consulate in Yemen?
