Hi All,

We have planned for an international trip to India this summer to see our family elder, who is celebrating his 94 birthday (missed seeing them for 3 long years due to covid!!). It has to be summer because of kids summer break.

Naturalization interview - 4/11

Travel to India - 6/16

After the naturalization, entering my origin country is super complicated. The process so complicated that it could take 2 to 3 months to get origin country entry permit/visa after I receive the US passport. But I can't quote this reason to expedite our passports. Our plan to get the passport within a week after the naturalization to start the India visa/permit process - if we are lucky we will get the India permit/visa done just right before the 6/16 travel. We are also in the middle of a move, so don't have time to make a short international trip (like vacay to Mexico) in the spring break to expedite passport

I would really appreciate any suggestions / what worked for you in the recent past to expedite the passport. Thank you so much!!

A couple of questions/comments.  You mentioned the interview set for April 11, are you certain your oath ceremony will be same day or soon after?  According to the passport website, the expedite option is 5-7 weeks, so it will be very tight even if you have a same day oath.  The passport options are a little disjointed as it says you can only schedule an appointment if your trip is within 5 days, but expedite is 5-7 weeks, so anyone traveling in the next 6-49 days and needing to get a passport don't seem to be covered.  Honestly, I would work very hard to get an appointment at the passport agency nearest to you after your oath ceremony and try and get an appointment.

Good Luck!

yes, I expect to receive the cert on the same day of the interview. I have been told that the passport agency will try to issue the passport within a week for urgent travels - my problem is I don't have an urgent travel in April (at least can't do one given the current circumstances).

I cant find the exact info .. its on the passport site somewhere .. there is also the accepted reason of needing an urgent passport in order to get a visa /travel doc.. is a longer period of tome than the travel within 5 days .. call the national passport call line and ask about your situation

Here is the information from the DoS Travel site.  There seems to be a gap between those that need to travel within 5 days and those that need to travel in 5-7 weeks.  I would call the passport agency as maybe things have loosened up a little and the website has not caught up.

Thats what i saw today …. but they have updated the website since i had an urgent passport appt on Feb 24.

At that time there was a different format to the info and it listed needing a visa or foreign travel doc within ?? 4 weeks as an acceptable reason for urgrnt appointments.

Thats why i suggested OP call the hotline
