Divorce Response and Delay

Hi I know this is not an immigration question but it's kind of related. Because I am amending my joint i751 petition. My husband served me about three weeks ago. I responded a week ago. How long do you think it takes for the other party to respond? Because he hasn't responded to my counter claim yet? I just want to get over with it and move on when I wasted 4 years waiting for him to change but now that I wanna move on, he is not responding. Does anyone have any idea how long it takes in NJ/NYC

I trust you have a good attorney who will work in your best interests....

But thats what my attorney suggested. The counter claim agrees that irreconcileable differences happened

About attorneys

The attorney wants to bill as many hours as possible.  You and the attorney have completely different goals.

The best use of an attorney is to write up a previously approved settlement and file it.

Claims and counterclaims can go on for months or years.  I know this why?  My ex wife and I went to court (34) times and I did it on purpose to financially wipe her out because she was playing games with access to our daughter.  I did it too.  Her, her father, and anyone else that wanted to take a shot at bankrolling her.

You want quick, you settle it all in one meeting, write up the document, file it, move on.  Give in to whatever it takes.

Yes you can.  Most states allow for a mediated settlement agreement, basically a written contract between the two parties negotiated with a mediator, once signed it gets filed with the court and entered.  This is faster if you can both agree on the terms quickly.  Some states have waiting  periods, others don't.  Time to do some research on your own.  Google is a great place to start.  Good luck!
