Hello everyone, I was just wondering if anyone had any info of how to bring a family member to the U.S from Bali Indonesia. I'm a U.S citizen and I've been trying to get my little brother (31) to the U.S for a while but I'm unsuccessful. I applied for my mom and she got her 10 year B1/B2 Visa without any issues. My little brother is stuck in Indonesia for a few years now due to the Coronavirus restrictions and also can't leave or travel anywhere due to his now expired ID and passport; plus the lack of service by the Moroccan consulate in Jakarta. We have emailed them, called them, went there to the consulate in Jakarta and sent family members to Morocco (Rabat) to check on his ID renewal but no one would help us. A complete silence and disrespect.

Does anyone know a way around this? My brother suggested applying for an asylum, but i explained to him that this is not an option since asylum is a form of protection which allows an individual to remain in the United States instead of being removed (deported) to a country where he or she fears persecution or harm (it's more that he is angry for the lack of service). I've suggested that he reaches out to the Indonesian authorities and see if he can apply for a permanent residency in Indonesia then get an Indonesian passport then hopefully have a functioning travel documents that can get him here (I have no idea how this works);

I'm so keen on getting my little brother home, here in the U.S since I haven't seen him in 20+ years and would love the chance to hug him 😢

Any input, ideas or just a nice comment would be very much helpful and appreciated. Thank you.

John

Hi there!

are you talking about sponsoring him for a green card? Or him getting a tourist visa?  What do You mean when you say that you “applied for your mom”?
if you’re wanting to sponsor him for a green card, it is going to take 15 years. If he wants to come visit you, he has to apply on his own and show strong ties to Indonesia

Fill out the online and print out the page

this is application for a new passport as his is expired

he will need proof of his residence and fingerpirnts taken

then,  he mails this and old passport to the Moroccan embassy in India

they mail it to Morocco (takes about a month)

In case of theft, loss, deterioration or expiry of the passport of a Moroccan residing abroad, the request for renewal of the passport is deposited through an administrative procedure in the place of residence.

When the place of residence can’t be proved, the request for renewal of the passport is deposited by the prefecture or the province of the place of presence;

In this case, the applicant must support his/her request of a “consular certificate of registration”, delivered by the consulate of his place of residence abroad.

The address related to the passport will be indicated on the consular certificate of registration

there is no asylum for Moroccan

you can apply for your brother for US visa /  there is a numerical limit on approvals so it takes years / looking at more than  15 for a visa approval for him

I was thinking about applying for a Tourist Visa for him just like I did for my mom. He can't apply right now due to his expired paperwork. He's been trying to renew them for more than two years and no one would help. Thanks for your help I really appreciate it.

He did submit all the documents they asked for a renewal but he is not getting answers for more than two years. Does it usually take that long to extend or renew your passport if you live abroad? I am not sure how things work in Indonesian but I can only assume that it shouldn't take that long to renew an ID or a Passport. Thanks for your help.

Of first things first, he needs to renew his passport. Second, you can’t apply for a tourist visa for him. He needs to obtain it on his own merits

Whether you fill out the DS160 or he does, he needs updated documents first, so I would focus on that.  You said he already submitted everything to get a new passport, did he send this to the consulate in India or Indonesia?

He submitted all the documents to the consulate of Morocco in Indonesia and have a confirmation letter but after two years still nothing.

no, its a month maybe 2

sounds like he needs to submit a query to Rabat

and as a Moroccan man ,  without home ties to Morocco ,  he will not get a tourist visa

living now in India shows he does not have the strong ties he needs to show that he would return to Morocco after a trip to US

BTW he can not stay here permanent on a tourist visa so this doesn't help in the long run

apply for I 130 (as we did for my BIL ) and wait out the process

He did and even sent some family members to Rabat with copies of his expired ID, passport and power of attorney. None would answer or do anything. They are useless :(

As a US citizen, I traveled to Indonesia a few years ago. I didn't even need a visa to visit there.

Regardless, they really are not very helpful.

they can not help if the instructions are not followed

he needs to pay the fee,  submit the expired passport and new application along with the fingerprints

and residency requirements

and then the new passport will be given

we renewed Adil's from the US

it took just about 5 weeks

they do send back the expired passport too so all entry stamps u can keep track of
