I am from Ukraine, my K1 visa was transferred to Frankfurt. In this regard, I have several questions how to properly prepare for an interview in connection with the current situation.

Please help me:

1. Is it required to translate documents to English? For example, my Ukrainian passport and my birth certificate.

2. If I am required to translate documents into English, must the translation be completed by a professional translator and notarized?

3. Due to the war in Ukraine, I am unable to get my police clearance certificate. What should I do in this case?

4. Are Russian-speaking or Ukrainian-speaking officers available for the visa interview? If not, does the Embassy make a translator available for the interview? If I need to hire a translator, do they need to be licensed?

Thank you

Anyone fluent in either language can translate. All you need to do is add a title block at the bottom @Crazy Cat has that title block.

All documents not in English have to be translated to English

Immigration journey is not: fast, for the faint at heart, easy, cheap, for the impatient nor right away. If more than 50% of this applies to you, best get off the bus.

The Frankfurt consular website says anything not in German or English needs to be translated. My wife and I had to translate and apostille these documents already for the USCIS portion of the process.

My wife and daughter's Ukrainian passport has both English and Ukrainian so I don't think that one needs translation.

I would use a professional translator if I were you. I don't think it is worth the potential delay. Likewise, I would get the document apostilled by the Ukrainian consulate closest to you. I don't have experience doing this but if anyone outside Ukraine can, they can.

I don't know what to do about the police certificates either unless they begin issuing them before we need them. I plan to scan a document that says they are not available now due to war and ask the NVC to pass my file to the consulate. I did see an email response that the consulate officer doing the interview has the authority to waive a document requirement if it is not available.

I would take a translator to the interview. The Frankfurt consulate has a website listing them.

The Ukrainian consulate in Istanbul would not apostille my wife's 1st marriage certificate, but they did certify it though. She was informed that apostilles could only be done in Ukraine.
