Original birth certificate or notarised copy?

Morning fellow VJers!

I was wondering if it was ok to have a notarised copy of my birth certificate should I ever have to attend the i-485 interview down the road.

I am planning way in advance because if yes, then I will need my mum to send it to me from my home country.

Of course, if a notarised copy is better, then I would prefer it as the originals usually are kept safely.

Not related, but the situation is:
I am also currently working on some documents for my country's embassy and they're requesting for a notarised copy since I don't have my BC with me.
If the i-485 interview is ok with a notarised copy, I would get my mum to send it for both of these situations, if not, I will get her to safely Fedex the original.

Thank you for any advice!

If they ask for it they will want to see the original. I had my interview last month and they asked to see my original birth certificate which I showed along with a certified translation.

If your embassy is ok with a notarized copy, get one because you don’t want the embassy to take your original and never give it back.

Having your birth certificate anywhere but in your control or possession is of no benefit to you.
