I believe so, yes.

And your new last name might appear on your marriage certificate-- I think it just depends on the state :)

When you apply for the marriage certificate, you'll put down your maiden name on the marriage license.

If you wanna change your maiden name on your ID/driver's license, you need to show the original marriage certificate to the local DVM, and also you have to have the name changed first for your SSN.

For other documents, usually a copy of marriage certificate should be enough. However, some banks may require you to aquire your new ID/diver's license with your married first before changing the records.

So, the order should be:

1. change name on SSN

2. get a new ID/driver's license

3. all the other documents

Hope it helps! :)

Zombie is correct on this. Marriage laws are regulated by states. It depends on your state. In CA, there is no field to indicate your new married name, only your maiden name. However, if you take your marriage certificate to the DMW, you'll be able to change your surname to that of your husband. The husband's surname will be on the same marriage certificate and they will allow you to change that his surname. But prior to going to DMW, it's best to go to the Social Security Administration first to get your name changed their first. Then go to DMV once you receive your new SS card with your new married name.
