That is the problem in the UK it is not cheaper to use public transport that using your car, when you take convenience into account also.

You got that right! We did the math and when we figured out that it wasn't cheaper to use public transportation, we stopped using it. It's sad but bus fares in York are extortionate!

Also, mom was never my driver, in the city I lived in in Brazil, busses are a common thing to use, and she got my older brother to teach me how to use them at the age of 9, so I could get to and from school on my own. To and from my English course on my own, and to and from ballet on my own.

Same here. I was lucky cuz I was living real close to my school, my ballet/jazz classes, my piano classes and the english school was a bit more far away, but still, at the age of 10, I believe, I was allowed to go either walking or by bus. I didn't need my dad driving me anywhere. But I lived in a very safe neighborhood and the transportation system in my city is really good.

I don't like it either, but people nowadays are raising the most selfish, self-centered children EVER. It's not the kids' fault; it's the parents' fault! Kids are kids.

agree.. what happened to the discipline of the old days? now i see kids telling their folks they are dumb or kids in the grocery store crying cuz they didn't get a candy bar, yelling and jumping, making a scene, and the parents don't seem a little bit embarrassed or even bothered to discipline the kids.. man if I pulled one of those rants when I was a kid, it was either ####### whoopin @ home, or they'd just leave me there crying and 'hide'.. i neved did it again lol..

you're lucky. i'd have gotten one there and at home

Did you ever have to get your own switch off the tree for your parent to use on you? We'd always get the biggest branch we could carry. The smaller the switch was, the more it hurt! I remember having to kneel on uncooked rice for 30 minutes. It didn't feel good. But it was hilarious plucking the rice from the knee-caps! I even had to eat a cigarette because I got busted for smoking! How the times have changed for disciplining children these days!

Joe, you think it's appropriate to discipline a 19 month old like that?

Maybe if the 19 month old had some smokes hidden in his crib

I was actually reminiscing to Charles' getting spanked. I remembered mine as stated. There is more. But I don't want to embellish ;)

I have very little trouble believing this story. In my personal experience the FA's on Continental's flights are typically ruder than other airlines. I don't expect people to be happy go lucky all the time (especially on 13 hour flights) but I cannot even count the times I've had FA's on Continental roll their eyes at me or glare at me when I said THANK YOU or anything else even remotely polite or friendly.

(And don't even get me started on Delays on Continental haha :innocent: )

The only scenario I can even imagine the flight attendant's behavior being acceptable is if the child was screaming, kicking, running around the plane with hands in the air and shouting "CRASH PLANE! BOOM!" or something along those lines

This is absolutely ridiculous.
