2nd entry and visa validity

Dear all, 

 

I just want to confirm something.  My partner has a double entry B2 visa, with a validity of mid-January, 2022.  She used her first entry before that date, and has never left in order to use the second entry.  

 

Now that the validity date is past, she can no longer use the second entry, is that correct?  Or is it just that she has to use the first entry before the validity date?

If the visa has expiration date of January 2022 - it's expired. Once she departs from current visit she will need to get a new one for future travel.

What is a "double entry" B2?  B2s are generally issued for a period of time, not number of entries.

 

She needs to leave the US before the date indicated on her I-94.

I think in rare cases there are some single and double entry B visas that get issued. Might be written in the annotation notes if there's a limit on entries.

I think it depends on the economic status of the country.  I've heard many B2 visas are for 10 years.

It depends on the reciprocity that another country gives to US citizens who apply for visas for that country, i.e., the US will give the same number of entries for the same amount of time as another country gives us.  (There are a few exceptions where the US will issue longer term visas than the host country due to workload demands resulting from having to continuously re-issue visas when reciprocal shorter visa validity are issued.)

 

For example, that's why the maximum length of validity and number of entries for B1/B2 visas issued to Iranian nationals is 3 months validity with 1 entry only.  That's what the Iranian government says they will issue to US citizens.  And, it's why a Cuban applying for a visitor for business (B1) will receive a 1 entry, 6 month-validity visa, but if they apply for a B2 (visitor for pleasure) or a B1/B2, they will get a 1 entry, 3 month visa.  And why someone from Senegal will get a maximum 10 year-validity visa with multiple entries, while those from Gambia will get a 60 month visa with multiple entries.  And why tbe maximum visa for Cambodians will be 2 entries, 3 month-validity; Vietnamese will max out with a multiple entry, 12 month-validity visa; and, if from Laos, it will be 2 entry, 3 month-validity.  As you can see, it varies wildly even between neighboring countries.
