Few years back we submitted an Affidavit of Support for my in laws.  We shocked to find out that the documents we submitted to the Visa Center (US VISA Center), were given to my in laws.  I was wondering the documents we submitted for the "Affidavit" (which included our proof of income and other financial documents) should those have been given to my in laws?  Or should the VISA office kept them?

Did you upload the documents directly to the CEAC online portal of the National Visa Center (NVC)?  If so, financial documents uploaded to CEAC are not downloadable and not available for viewing by anyone other than NVC/DOS staff.  If you submitted the documents by mail, I'm not aware of how paper submissions are handled.
