Hello everyone! I applied for removal of conditions on residence I-751 July 2020 and for my n-400 naturalization on August 2021 based on my three years living in Usa with my spouse. Last week I received my naturalization interview scheduled on April 18 and a week after I also received my I-751 interview scheduled on April 27. Is this all normal , to be scheduled for removal of conditions interview after naturalization . ????? I’m really confused , did anyone of you happened this ?? I heard they do combo interviews but not totally separate days.?????

To be clear the requirements are to be a Green Card holder for 3 years and married to a USC for 3 years....not living in the US for 3 years.   Hopefully, you will get a combo interview....

In summary, it took 13 months for approval of the CR-1.  It took 44 months for approval of the I-751.  It took 4 months for approval of the N-400.   It took 172 days from N-400 application to Oath Ceremony.   It took 6 weeks for Passport, then 7 additional weeks for return of wife's Naturalization Certificate..

Yes , I’ve been married for more than 4 years now with Us citizen and living together in Usa , and i’m a green card holder as well . I’m totally eligible for having those benefits , my question was different . Why they scheduled different days of interview?

Never saw this, but I suppose it is possible.  I agree, hopefully the IO will conduct a combo-interview as the I751 does have to be approved prior to the N400.  I suggest you take the I751 interview notice with you when you go for your N400 interview and have your spouse with you (in the car if they are limiting people inside the building) and see if the IO decides to conduct both.  When my wife had her N400 interview, I went with her and the IO conducted a less than 5 minute I751 interview with the both of us before my wife had her N400 interview.  We never did get a notice for an I751 interview.

Good Luck!

Some people, in the past, have thought living in the US for 3 years qualified them although their Green Cards had been approved only a couple years before.  Without a timeline, it is difficult to know.  Thanks.

As others have said, ideally you will get a combo interview and your USA citizen spouse should be available to attend your N-400 interview.

At some field offices, there are varying degrees of division of labor.  I know an IO who only does N-400s and she would not be able to give you a combo interview. At some field offices, such as Seattle, once the N-400 is filed, the I-751 is suspended until the N-400 interview.

The general advice to file N-400 when eligible is advice I agree with (and we personally plan to follow it even if I-751 is not yet approved).  But it doesn’t always result in a combo and sometimes slows things down, depending on the field office.

What @Crazy Cat might be thinking  is that if for some reason you were not eligible to file N-400 when you did, then by giving you a separate I-751 interview, at least one of your cases can move forward.

Actually, I was just clarifying the requirements since someone might read this thread later and think that time in the US might be a factor.  Thanks.

My I751 was pending for one year and a half, and about six month ago after my biometric appointment they changed the status “ your case is going to be scheduled for an interview “ , and I after consulting with an  Lawyer online I decided to apply for my n-400 since I was eligible ,thinking they probably going to schedule me for one combo interview . Doesn’t make any logic sense to me how they wold schedule after naturalization interview . My only fear is if they will deny my n400 that day only because  my I751 is still pending. . I will be so pissed of and they gonna have to see me in court with them for sure . I paid for my n400 , and submitted all the evidence they required .

As I explained that’s the policy of some field offices. For some field offices, naturalization is a higher priority than anything else and it is hard to disagree with that.

If they deny for that reason, they are breaking the law.

For sure

I doubt this scenario will happen though.

So Mike , if I don’t get the combo interview  what do you think will happen ?? It’s possible that day I will get my naturalization interview done and they will not approve it till I get my I751 interview 9 days later , and after I get them both done they will schedule me for the oath ? Is this scenario possible ?

Yes. My understanding is that it is  the norm in Seattle.

Having both interviews within 9 days of each other is a win in my opinion.  It does mean your spouse has to take two days off work though.

You have to attend both.  You won’t naturalize until a few weeks after the interview and it is my understanding that I751 approval precedes N400 (approval)

I wasn’t allowed into the naturalization interview (December).  Based on the instructions we were sent spouses were’t allowed even on a 3-yr case (which ours was)

Bring your spouse to the N-400 interview in case the IO gives you a combo.  Even if denied entry your spouse  can wait outside in the hope the IO calls your spouse in.

Spouses are not allowed to attend the N400 interview as this interview is all about the LPR intending to naturalize.  In our case as I mentioned above, I did go with my wife for her scheduled N400 interview because she also had a pending I751 (no interview scheduled for that).  When the IO came out and asked for my wife, the IO asked me to come back as well for a very brief I751 interview (less than 5 minutes and only verified the information on the I751 form), then I was escorted back to the waiting area (pre-Covid), and my wife proceeded with the N400 interview which took about another 10-15 minutes.  I agree with @Mike E, have your spouse come with you to the N400 interview even if they have to wait outside, also, bring the NOA about the I751 interview and let the IO decide if they want to review that at the same time.  If the IO chooses not to conduct the I751 interview, then unfortunately you will have to come back for that interview with your spouse.  Your N400 will not be denied, but it will be a no decision until the I751 is finalized.

Good Luck!
