K-1 is best if you are unsure about getting married.  It's like a trial period for both of you   if you know you are getting married without a doubt go the CR1 route.  It really depends on your circumstances too .

But if married less than 2 years you still need to paperwork and pay the fees for AOS and ROC.   In terms of supporting evidence you can reuse them with updates so makes it bit easier when applying.

In a way , k1 and CR1 are about the same.  Just do what feels best for you.

This is incorrect, and it is advising potential fraud.   Both the beneficiary and petitioner are required to submit a signed statement that they intend to marry one another, per the requirements of the K1 visa.  Do not lie to USCIS/CBP/DOS etc.

A lawyer will not be able to offer anything different from the info you’re getting here.   They cannot speed up the process at all, either.

Fair enough, thank you. Do you or anyone else know if being in the military changes anything? He is currently in the US and will continue to be stationed in the US for the next few years.

He might be able to get legal help

My understanding is that does not change the speed of the process unless he receives overseas deployment orders.

Yes, as long as you leave, you can get married in the US.  People do Vegas weddings all of the time :)  You could plan whatever you want and get married essentially wherever you want.

Utah courts will marry you online and it's completely legal in the U.S. and other countries.  You can get an apostle for Canada.

You still have to visit in person after the zoom marriage to legitimize it.

I would like at what the current processing times are (although these could change), but if you're willing to wait a little longer, I would go down the CR-1 route, as you'll have an easier process once you arrive in the US. However, if you were like me and didn't want to wait to be apart from your better half, even with the added expense and waiting time upon arrival in the US, then the K-1 is worth looking into. Both are difficult processes that will take time but be incredibly rewarding once you are on the other side.

Thank you so much for this. It was both encouraging and helpful!
