Hi everyone,

I'm getting ready to file the i-130 for my wife, and I just realized that on my Hong Kong marriage certificate, for my mother's name, I put her maiden name
e.g. "Jane Doe", instead of "Jane Doe Smith" (her married name). I guess at the time, I was thinking it would be better to put her maiden name, but now I'm second-guessing my decision.

On the actual marriage certificate, it reads:
-------------------------------------------------|------------------------|
Surname and name                    |   Doe, Jane      |

of mother                                     |                           |
-------------------------------------------------|------------------------|

However, I'm worried that if/when the USCIS agent reviews our case, they'll see my mom's name as
First Name: Jane, Middle Name: Doe, Last Name: Smith (which is her current, legal name) on the i-130 form; and then see her name as
Given Name: Jane, Surname: Doe, on our marriage certificate; I'll get an RFE for a discrepancy on our marriage certificate.

Normally, if we actually lived in Hong Kong, and if I thought it was going to be a problem, I could take our marriage certificate to the registrar there and get it fixed, but we live in Cambodia.  Right now, a trip to Hong Kong just to fix this error wouldn't be very convenient.

I'd sincerely appreciate any and all thoughts or ideas that you might be willing to share.
Thanks in advance,

Not an issue for the I-130.  Some jurisdictions actually require the bride/groom's mother's maiden name on the marriage registration.  So the marriage certificate we submitted with our I-130 lists only our mothers' maiden names.  We had no RFE at any point in the process.

It is proper to use your mother's maiden name on the I-130 too.  No worries.

Facts are cheap...knowing how to use them is precious...
