I did pay for the filing fee for I-485, so it seems like I can apply for I-131 without additional fee

I assumed you paid the I-485 when you said attorney wanted you to add another $500 for I-131 at the time of initial filing. …but maybe that was just the attorney’s legal fee for the form and nothing improper as I guessed.

Well your instinct was right... I was sort of rushed into retaining this lawyer when I was emotionally unstable.

We agreed upon the legal fee and payment plan during the initial consultation, and she told me there would be fees for both I-485 and I-131 excluded from the legal fee. When she sent me the agreement, she tried to add on $500 more, saying she just realized how much work she had to put into it, and the added amount was the lowest she could go. Eventually we settled with the original legal fee + $100.

When we first started, she was compassionate and understanding, so I felt comfortable opening it up and working with her. Later I didn't know what happened, she seemed to turn into a different person. She put my case aside for more than 6 months, not looking into the documents/evidences I compiled for her (I was pretty much doing her job), cancelled/rescheduled our meetings the last minute, and the worst- promised to send out my packet before she left town, but the night before she left, she sent me a lengthy email explaining that she needed more time and asking me to "survive two more weeks." From the time I retained her to having the packet sent out, it took me 13 months. Till now, I'm still trying to get the complete copy of the filing...

confidential information

I'm not seeing it; please specify.  The filing date by itself can't identify anybody.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

Dear @Pinkrlion

the copies of documents + Ds260 we mail to the NVC, do they all have to be colored copies or black and white? I heard that we have to submit colored copies only

Im gonna make copies of the civic documents now to prepare a file and just wanted to make sure if it’s required to have black and white copies or colored scans of all the documents

thank you a million for guiding me through  this process, appreciate you

Thank you for responding

but don’t they send the petitioner’s case file to the local office once the petition is approved? Or does the file get transferred to the local office after the petitioner submits i485?

The case is transferred to the local office just after your VAWA is approved and your I-485 is pending.

Hi everyone, I hope you’re all doing well. I have a question, my case is pending since October, 2019. I reached out to congressman and they responded “the case is not yet ready for a decision, as the
required security checks remain pending.
We cannot move forward on the case until the security checks have been completed” so I’ll be patiently waiting.. again and again.. but now I need to travel to my home country in September, I received AP not so long ago but now can I do so in regards to that response?

thank you

If your advance parole is valid and you are not in removal proceedings or filed asylum before then you can travel without any problem.

This makes so much sense! It explains clearly why I heard so many different answers.

I did pay for the filing fee for I-485, so it seems like I can apply for I-131 without additional fee.

Is there a suggested timing for me to send it out? I plan to do so by self if possible.

Since I didn't include it in the original packet, what other documents I need to include?

Thank you!

There is no deadline to file form I-131.You paid the I-485 then you may file form I-131 without a fee.Send a copy of the I-485 receipt along your I-131.
You must send your form to Vermont.Read the I-131 instructions to determine what documentation is required.
