No SSN after 7 Week - DHS Verification Still Pending

I'm in the US on F1 Visa, I got a graduate assistantship job in school and I applied for my SSN on the Jan 18th, HR requires it before I can start working. It's been 7 weeks now and I'm yet to get it. I call the local SSA office I applied at every week since the first two weeks elapsed and I'm told my application is pending DHS Verification. I don't know if anyone has had this issue and how were you able to resolve it. I got a mail from HR yesterday and they said they might have to employ someone else because of the delay. I really don't know what to do. I need advice please.

Check to see if there is anything listed under your USCIS number on the SAVE case check system, for me it showed case returned to SSA. 

 

It may not change anything but you will hopefully see the inquiry knowing the SSA has sent it to DHS.

  • 18 Jan 2022: Case Status 'Issued'
  • 20 Jan 2022: Passport with visa collected in person
  • 14 Feb 2022: Enter USA via Dulles, airport
  • 29 Apr 2022: Green Card received in Post

 

N-400 Application for Citizenship

  • 16 Nov 2024: Submit N-400 Online and receive receipt notification
