Hello, I was wondering what is the current average processing time for a CR-1 visa. Or where I can find that information.

My fiancé and I  (US citizen) originally wanted to go the CR-1 route because we both agreed it would be so much better in terms of receiving a green card, the ability to work, as well as the ability to travel upon approval. However, due to border closures and the uncertainty of when we would be reunited again we ended up going down the K-1 route. Processing times for K-1 is taking much longer than what we thought, and I'm suppose to visit my fiancé this July. I don't think we will hear back by then and I am wondering if it would be better for us to just go ahead and get married and withdraw our K-1 and do a CR-1 instead. I don't want to miss the opportunity for us to get married if something happens in our K-1 visa that causes a greater delay, but I also don't want to abandon the visa if it gets approved a few weeks later.

What are y'all opinions?

Where does your partner live?

Process can take between 1.5- 2 years.

Some are lucky and complete the process a little sooner.

Some are interviewing in countries with a backlog and have to wait a little longer.

Add your flag to your profile for easy access

but also check out the Immigration Timelines (can be found at the top of the VJ page)

choose your country and see average wait times.

you applied July of 21 so this is a personal decision u need to make

u should hear soon of the K1 which (for Algeria) can be denied / this depends so much on the evidence of the relationship u sent and the time spent together (even with the pandemic)

a spouse visa would strengthen your proof of a real relationship

and for the Algerian family,  they would love it done for them to witness

Here the majority say do a CR1 as the advantages far outweigh the K1

and for the $1225 u would have to spend on the AOS after marriage ,  u can fly and marry

Yes, I'm Algerian- American and have known my fiancé my whole life. We both wanted to do the CR1 visa beforehand but the pandemic stopped us from being able to get married. We did the K-1 visa not knowing when the borders would open up again. But now that the borders are open, I don't know if we should get married or just wait to hear the response for K-1.

I know the K-1 for Algeria has a lower approval rate and that makes me worried. But at the same time I am ethnically Algerian and have known my fiancé my whole life ( I included plane tickets going all the way back to 7 years ago) and I think that does strengthen our application. The one thing lacking from our application is that we don't have many pictures together due to culture. But in the packet I also included long threads of our messages back and forth and our phone calls. So hopefully it will be enough.

Thank you! It looks like the longest part is just waiting for that NOA2.

Yep! The worst is not knowing how long that NOA1-NOA2 will take.

Could be as little as 3 months but could be longer than a year.

You'll need to decide for yourself if going forward with the K1 is better than marrying in June and going for a spousal visa
