Hello All,

Thanks for the invite. I've notice that one or more people are applying for ssn's first and getting married and then changing name on ssn's. Is it better to get married first and then applying for ssn, that way my fiance can apply with her new name?

In my personal opinion, I would apply for SSN two weeks (it takes about that long to get into the system), After arriving. You can not work without a SSN and it's not difficult to change the name at a later date.

Welcome to all the new members!

The interview was very straight forward, I believe Dao was only asked three questions:

1: how did we meet

2: have I been to thailand to meet her

3: I forget.. bit it was also very basic

Hmmm (dont panic)... If those are the only photos you have of the two of you together you will have to use them. Will you be going to Thailand for the interview? I think it will be important to be very clear to the Interviewing officer that the photos are of your engagement ceremony and are not misinterpreted as something more.

T.,

Have her apply for her SS card promptly, as twellspeak suggests. It can be difficult to get a SS card after marriage at some offices, especially doing what you want to do - applying in a name that is diferent from what the USCIS has on record. The important thing is to get the card, even if it has to remain in the maiden name for a while after marriage.

Look for posts in the 'Work and Travel Prior to AOS' forum by mdyoung on SSA issues..

As twellspeak answer, my K-1 interview question was really much the same.. but because we met in the US they didnt ask how many time he came for visit  but Bram (my hubby) was there with me at the interview so he was asked "what do you do for a living" and a little more simple questions for him.. just total like 5 mins

dont worry.. you will be fine.

By the way.. at the embassy they have a translator also if your fiancee cant speak English well.. so dont have to worry about that also

and for picture of your engagement.... umm... it can be misunderstood like twellspeak said. so if you can come for the interview, that might be better..

Well for our engagement party, there were two parties one informal for family members (morning time with regular clothes and at the temple), the formal party was in the evening time with people and friends. that is when i gave her the engagement ring. I wore a suit and she wore a white wedding dress to make it look formal. I am planning to go with her to the interview. What do you mean when you say they might misunderstand the pictures? Anyone on here get an interview date yet and how long is taking from when Bangkok receives the paperwork and the interview date?

It means that the interviewing officer has the final say over issuing the visa. If he/she has any doubts about either of your marital statuses, she could be denied hervisa or at least require you to prove that you are not married. In my personal opinion, ANY photo's of her in a wedding dress would be virtual suicide for the application, do not use them.

Hi All,

Man, it's been a while since I posted anything here. WELCOME  to all the new members to this thread. This thread will make things easier for the process; it did for me and my wife when we started in 2004. Good luck with everything for all those still going through the processes!!

Anyways.....I have posted (in another thread) a few questions in regards to obtaining a B2 Visitor's Visa for my in-laws.

If anyone has any information and would like to share, please go HERE

Thanks!

regards,

George

t&s,

My wife's interview back in Jan 2005. Some of the information I posted maybe outdated but there are some info about the interview process, including questions they asked her and me!! Just click on the [My Timeline] link you see on the left hand side; hopefully the info there will be helpful.

About the pictures, I wouldn't show those photos. I'd agree with what twellspeak mentioned about them.

Good luck!!

regards,

George

I would definitely not show them those pictures! From what I have heard the whole engagement and marriage ceremonies differ around Thailand. Some would call that a wedding. Then you would have to prove that it wasn't.

My wife wants to know where your fiance comes from in Thailand?

So my wife and I just arrived here from Thailand and she entered on her K-3 visa. Our POE to the US was in Canada and the US immigration officials said that she was being issued her "green card". They did the fingerprinting on some form and had her sign it and said she would receive her temp card in the mail.

I am totally confused now. I thought we had to file AOS before she could get her "green card". They also said that she was cleared to work she just had to get a SSN card. Once again, I thought we had to file I-175 for Employment Authorization.

Would someone be so kind as to clarify what we should be doing next. Can we just apply for a SSN? Does she have to have a EAD to get a SSN?

Should I start the filing of her AOS or wait to see if the green card shows up in the mail? I am totally confused as I have been getting a different story from everyone I ask.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

On the main visajourney page there is a link in the upper right corner titled “Embassy/USCIS Reviews” click on it..... then on the next page choose the Consulate as Thailand then click find entries.

That will give you all the information about the Thailand interviews. Some reviews are very detailed.

Are you going there for the interview? Go a few days early and take photos everywhere you go.

If she can answer all the questions you posted then you are doing well.
