All,

A month or so ago I had a few PMs with someone here about housing developments in the Chiangmai area. I have since emptied my message folders (the hand is quicker than the brain) and forgotten who. I have some further information if my correspondant is interested.

While I guess this could be called a "rant" it is something on my mind today. ALL of us have worked through the Visa process paying the fees and waiting months or years for our loved ones to join us. This blurb today from www.boortz.com is right on the money.

Political correctness seems to be the order of the day in the media. I'm listening to CNN this morning as I prepare these program notes. Time after time I hear the word "immigrants." Only once thus far have I heard any derivative of the word "illegal" used in a story. The idiotic phrase "undocumented workers" comes up now and again. It seems that the last thing that the media wants to do is to call them what they are .... illegal aliens. By definition they are not "Immigrants." Immigration is a legal procedure which these people have not followed. They're aliens ... again, by definition ... and they're here illegally. That adds up to illegal aliens. While they're trying to close down some American cities why can't we just call them who and what they are?

Just kind of rubs me the wrong way when I think of the hoops I had to go through for my fiancee to enter the country legally.

Hey Statsman, what kind of paperwork did Ying need to get her drivers liscense. So far all I have is the marriage certificate and the SS card, all with her maiden name on it. I need something with her new name on it. Thanks, Kirk and Jenny

Our visit to Thailand was great, but 4 weeks was enough and it's good to be home.

Rich,

Actually, by definition, "[t]he term "immigrant" means every alien except an alien who is within one of the following classes of nonimmigrant aliens ..."

The list of exceptions is lengthy and detailed, but a quick reading does not find an exception for undocumented aliens who are present in the USA. Indeed it appears that for non-immigrant aliens who are in the USA what makes them non-immigrants is that they are documented as such. Without documentation they are immigrants by definition of law.

INA Title 1, Section 101(a)(15)

Today is May 1st, the "official" Day without an immigrant. The word illegal omitted for the sake of political correctness.

I live in Los Angeles, the illegal immigrant capital of the United States, and I did enjoy quite a bit less traffic on my way to the office this morning. Many truck drivers have joined the protests in downtown LA.

Hi there,

I got the e-mail from the embassy for the interview date for my fiancee, but it is not on the schedule website yet about 4 days ago. How often is the website updated? thanks

I think it's updated once a week. As long as you have packet 4 with the interview date in writing, don't worry about it.

Bill,

Take a deep breath... we have discussed this many times already on this thread, and rather than telling you to go back and look for it, I will just tell you. The items you must send into the consulate to get your interview date are as follows:

Check-list (signed and dated with address)

DS-230 Part I (unsigned)

Two Passport Photos (Print name on back in felt tip marker)

Copy of Passport

$100.00 bill (just kidding! wanted to see who was paying attention!)

Only the first four items, and make sure you put your case number on the outside of the envelope and address it to the "Immigrant Visa Unit".

Good Luck!

P.S. Take a couple of shots of Sang Som!!! :D
