Thanks Brent and Ty! my dilemna now is the I-693A. my fiance had her medical exam and shots done in bangkok in feb '06. how do i obtain the results to file for the I-485?? they kept everything there. now i have to pay $150-$350 here for the civil surgeon to perform the shots and a medical exam!! what should i do?

Sorry, I posted a reply to your question above without really understanding your situation. Sorry.

I would call the hospital first and have them email, fax or snail mail you a copy of her vaccination record. Look through your paperwork first and make absolutely sure you do not have this information. Medically I'm not sure getting the shots again is a good idea or if it can be done.

:D Congrats on your NOA2 Bryan!!!

Dennis, you ever ask Tik about what shot she got that the Dr.s said she had to wait to get pregnant for?

Robert

Tik said the shot was for measles..She had no shot record so she got all the shots.. She went to Dr Irene at Bangkok nursing home. The DR is a She and is very nice to Tik she has been to her before.

Thanks... now I want to do a little research on it, and see if it truly is necessary to wait, because the Dr. told Chutima the same thing. We weren't really planning on waiting either!

my fiance said she received only 2 shots from the nurse and a full medical exam. the hospital gave her a sealed envelope with her x-ray inside and told her not to open. the us embassy also informed her that if she opened it, the K1 case will be dismissed! so she couldn't have a copy of her medical exam and shot records. so now i think the only thing for me, like you suggest is to make some phone calls to the same hospital in bangkok and request a copy of those shot records and what they perform as far as the medical exam on her. i called almost all of the offices of civil surgeons in town, they all told me that my fiance has to go through another medical exam and all of the shots. they all quoted me $200-$350!!! that's insane.

And Tik is absolutely correct, although you will normally not hear a woman say Di Chan, since it meant more for writing Thai.

I wrote it for Chutima, since it's a joke we have with each other. Not to have the correctness of my Thai analyzed by a farang.

Thanks for your concern though. People can laugh all they want. Like Chutima says, it doesn't bother her if a farang makes a mistake speaking Thai, because it is not their language, and she appreciates anyone who trys, even if sometimes it is wrong. Do you laugh at Thai people when they say something wrong in English?

No its ok ,I was not analyzing your Thai << Tik Reads this also and she was wondering why you said Chan. She also said its ok for you or me to say because we are Farang  .. AJ,

This is a bit confusing in several regards.

- What has the INS got to do with the spelling of your fiancee's name? Her passport was issued by Thailand, was it not, not the IRS?

- 'Punnarai' and 'Phannarai' are just different transliterations of the same name. That aside, if "her passport and everything says her name is Phannarai" where did you get the idea that her name is really 'Punnarai'?

Getting government-issued ID - whether Thai or US - changed can be a pain, you might be best of using the Romanized version of her name that is already on her ID. When getting other documents translated have the translater use the same transliteration as is on the ID.

Yodrak

I forgot to mention that my thai girl's nickname is Kwan but her real name is Punnarai. but the INS mispelled her name, so her passport and everything says her name is Phannarai. when i applied for the K1 visa for her i kept the name Phannarai instead of her real name Punnarai because i didn't want the confusion and scared of any delays. she would have to go to Khon Kaen to correct her name, but she didn't have time. my question is should i still use her incorrect name Phannarai? or use her nickname Kwan on Marriage Certificate, SSN card, driver's license (whenever she gets it), and on other things like insurance card? please help!!

Tiksman,

Robert is quite correct in his use of 'chan'. The pronoun is appropriate for use by males with intimate friends or lovers, and when used in such context the listener will not think it incorrect or funny.
