Have to agree, get a new I-134 together, get it notarized, and ship it there the fastest way possible. Granted, it may be overlooked, but why take the chance.

Rich,

I see a different possibility. Yes, a couple of months ago Ton had second thoughts and people here encouraged Dan to convince Ton to continue on and 'give it a try'. Perhaps Ton's 'inner voice', or 'woman's intuition', was correct back then and should have been listened to.

Now that she is here, and is having difficulty, I like George's suggestion to visit a Thai wat. Talking with the monks, and with other Thai people who have been through the adjustment, may help her to understand what she's feeling and decide what she really wants to do.

Yodrak

Not even 2 weeks yet and I am sendning Ton back home to bangkok. She is too home sick and I can't deal with that every day. I have tried to talk to her about it, but she doesn't talk, she just clams up. I don't think I will ever date anyone from a non-english speaking country again.

Dan,

Please do not take this the wrong way because I mean it with the best intentions. It seems like maybe you are not willing to work on this and maybe you have a bit of a temper. I remember a couple of months ago you were ready to throw in the towel and things worked out. Now, after only two weeks you are yet again ready to give up. Patience does not seem to be one of your virtues. This is not easy! For you or Ton. ....

Thank you all for your input. Ton calls home everyday to talk to Mom and some days to her friends. I think that actually makes it worse. The more she calls, the more homesick she gets. Rich, I have been very patient. It has nothing to do with patience when the person refuses to speak. Her english is fine when talking to me, but she won't talk to anyone else. I have not worked since we came back to the states and I am about to go back next week. I can't imagine how board she will be then. I am planning on taking her to Thai town this week and hopefully a Temple. But I am finding out, the more Thai stuff we do, the more she misses home. Every time we start talking and things seem a little better, then she does a 360 again and we get into it all over. I will keep all posted.

Pom Kid Thung Khun Krap,

You can't. Thailand is 9-12 hours ahead of the continental US in time so 'overnight' is possible only if the transport was instantaneous, but getting from here to there takes 15-18 hours or so. Then there's the in-country transport time at both ends.

That technicality aside, DHL and FedEx deliver to Thailand.

Hello Dan,

I did not want to cause offense. I guess I have just experienced the total opposite reaction with Thisa. She never stops smiling, loves my parents and loves to work outside in the garden every day. Even on the cold days. ;) She talks to her mom every day for 40 minutes or so. Maybe this can not be salvaged. America is very different from Thai culture. I hope this works out....don't give up too soon. Two weeks is a relatively short time. Does she have any hobbies or interests you can help her with? gl2u and Ton.

Ton also works outside in the garden. Tomorrow we are registering her for english classes which will be for 2 hrs a day 5 days a week. So hopefully she will enjoy going there and giving her something to do. But the other day when she looked up at the sky it made her depressed because it was day here and night in bkk where her nephew is sleeping. I didn't buy the ticket yet as we are trying to better the situation. I just worry at the fact it is only 2 weeks now, how will it be in 2 months?!?!

Dan,

Dao and I have also gone through some rough moments when she was very homesick. She misses her niece the most and talks about her a lot. We are approaching two months now and things have definitely improved substantially over the past couple of weeks, so it does get better with time.

Try to sit down and have a conversation about the future you two have together. You both need to believe that there is a good relationship and happiness in your future together for it to work. If you or her do not believe that, then perhaps it is time her her to decide if going back to thailand is what she wants.

Ton speaks english just fine for me. We have been speaking on the phone everyday for 2 years. We do a lot of speaking now about the situation.

The biggest problem here is..She is 29 yrs old and has never been on her own. She is used to sleeping with her mom by her side her entire life. She does not want to go home because of me, but because she misses her mom too much. Only half of her wants to be home. She said if she was to leave that she would miss me just as much as she now misses her family. Even though I think her english is ok when she speaks, it is that she can't understand when someone else is speaking. Everyone talks to fast for her which is why she doesn't watch TV. Hopefully she will make some friends at the english class.

Dan

When mariya first came she would only talk to me she was afraid not one would understand her english. So when we were with other people she would clam up. She had to talk to me because I was always talking to her and I would make her answer me. Let me tell you I can not shut her up now. She has so many questions, but I love it, she is really wanting to learn. Just try a sit and talk as much as possible. You will probably have to pry her feelings out of her. Asian women are hard to figure out, they will keep everything inside if you let them.

Wishing you and Ton nothing but the best
