Anyone tried to bring Mama or Papa to the U.S.? As mentioned a bit earlier my wife of 2 months is expecting a little one. This was not something we planned but one of those 1% out off 99% issues you hear about with birth control. Anyway, I would love to fly her mom over before the delivery and for a short time after. Is this possible or should I not make the effort? She has ties to her country including a rubber tree plantation, a home, a husband and two other children. My wife has already told her the chances are ha-sip ha-sip (50-50). Any thoughts?

I always have a feeling that they give the visa to the older people way easier than the youngs one... well.. my parents were here with no problem... but as they are government employees it's a lot easier for them too (any kind of government employees seems to have lots more credit to them) but I think you should try... and Congratulation!!!! For us... no little one till i can get my career going and that we are older than this :yes:

And congratulation Ton and Dan ^^

My MIL just applied for and received her B1/2 visa, good for 10 years. She said it was no hassle at all. We're not expecting any little packages yet, but you never know. I know Dao would like to have her mom here when it does happen.

Congratulations

skyman,

I guess it depends on what banks one uses. Costs me $1.50, and then only after using up 4 free transactions.

Yodrak

The ATM card trick is the way to go. You can even leave your own name on the card. I recomend calling her with the PIN though. Its about 6 bucks per transaction though so make it count. Good luck.

I have never paid a fee that i know of in Thailand at the ATM. The slip always says fee 0.00. The machine never discloses a fee during the transaction.

Hello VJ'ers!!

Well, Me and Wi are back in South Florida from Thailand!! We had a (unofficial) wedding that blew my mind away! Unbelievable is all I can say about it! From the ceremony to the party it was an all day event that was like a dream.

Congratulations Brent and Wi! :thumbs::thumbs::thumbs:

Glad to hear everything went well and you had a safe trip. As for Wi's SSN, you just need to wait about two weeks to apply, so that Wi's entry into the U.S. makes it into the system.

Good luck with the rest of your journey! :yes:

Brent & Wi,

Way to go man, congratulations!! Hope Wi is enjoying the USA!!

(speaking from my wife's SSN/card experience) I would wait a couple of weeks after the entry date in the US before applying for Wi's SS number/card (give it some time before her name is in the "system"-usually a couple of weeks or even 3 weeks). Apply in her maiden name. Then after marriage, it would be easier to apply for a new SS card under the married name. Thats what my wife did with her SS number/card.

Best of Luck,

George
