My wife is too nervous to go it alone, needs me there. Shes not planniong on coming till April anyway.

I don't think it matters, from what I have been told the petitioner can't go to the interview anyways. I was told you have to wait outside of the embassy, so they will be in there alone anyways.

Yes, I know but I need to still be there and take her to the embassy with all the correct documents, etc.

I called NVC today, they sent the 129f tot he Embassy on the 14th. I'm going to try and track if they have it yet and entered into the system. Although, I am sure, they will be sending the P-3 to my wife long before we send the P-3 back to Bangkok. Need to time this correctly so I can be there.

Hah, now thing are moving too fast and I need to slow them down.... :P

Now that both the I130 and I129F have been approved, what is the time difference between K-3 and CR-1? If you have an extra 1 - 2 months, you may want to contact NVC and pursue the immigrant visa and avoid the AOS/EAD once your wife is in the USA (it also means just dealing with the State Department and not having to re-enter the black hole at USCIS).

Whichever way you choose, best of luck!

John

Congrats on the interviews!!! I hope to be on your heels soon (waiting to find out exactly what they want for the RFE). Sending her up north to get her "I'm single, can marry" paper. I'm actually kinda nervous! It will really be happening! She's going to be living here with me...no more single-ness! It's one thing visiting their country playing house and it's different completely settling in, settling down and in a new country! I'm looking forward to it while fretting a little bit. I can't wait to show her everything. I want to take her through Wash. DC (maybe ask Obama if we can come over for lunch)! LOL!

I've been using Kui Mun calling card and it's been typical; quirky service but only lately strange things have been happening (I'm ringing her phone but her phone doesn't ring, disconnects are about every 30 minutes when typical is about every 90 minutes...sometimes having to dial 4-5 times to get through because something got funkadelic somewhere in the lines/system; mainly ankle biter problems, though).

I asked the following question on a different forum, it was suggested I post it here on sawasdee 2 instead:

The US Consulate in BKK has an online posting of the checklist to be followed by K-1 applicants for Packet-3: http://bangkok.usembassy.gov/root/pdfs/k_visa_packet3.pdf

One thing they list has me worried - the checklist asks for:

Marriage Certificates: Both Petitioner and Beneficiary should submit a certified copy of all marriage certificates. If either Petitioner or Beneficiary was previously married, please provide proof of termination of that marriage (e.g. death certificate of spouse, final divorce decree or annulment).

Gulp. I was married in 1990, divorced in 2008. I've already provided the certified final divorce decree. I mailed in a copy of divorce decree with our I-129F petition , and the original is with my fiancee to show at interview, if required. But I do not have the marriage certificate to a marriage which took place 18 years ago in 1990, which ended bitterly and for which I kept no records. I don't know why they would need the old marriage certificate since I have the divorce decree to prove it's over.

Are there any divorced people who applied for K-1 through BKK consulate who can tell me if they indeed require old marriage certificates?

I should point out ...

The marriage took place in Israel, and was registered there with the religious courts (Bet Din), who do not have computerized records as far as I know. Meaning that getting an extract would involve a personal visit to the court in Haifa, Israel (I'm in the US, so I'd probably ask my brother to go on my behalf), then getting it translated from Hebrew to English and certifying the translation, and then mailing it to Thailand. Which I can do, but this will take time, effort, and money. That's why I'm asking if it's likely to be necessary before going to those lengths.

The language in the instructions is ambiguous.

Firstly, they write: Both Petitioner and Beneficiary should submit a certified copy of all marriage certificates

What does 'should' mean? Do I interpret it as 'must'? Or something less strong, more nuanced? Just an advisory?

Secondly they conjoin the two sentences imprecisely.

If they had written: "Both Petitioner and Beneficiary should submit a certified copy of all marriage certificates. If either Petitioner or Beneficiary was previously married, please provide proof of termination of that marriage (e.g. death certificate of spouse, final divorce decree or annulment) INSTEAD OF PROVIDING PROOF OF THAT MARRIAGE"

or if they had written: "Both Petitioner and Beneficiary should submit a certified copy of all marriage certificates. If either Petitioner or Beneficiary was previously married, please provide proof of termination of that marriage (e.g. death certificate of spouse, final divorce decree or annulment) IN ADDITION TO PROVIDING PROOF OF THAT MARRIAGE"

(italics are mine in both cases) it would have been crystal clear. But I'm not sure from their text if providing proof of divorce is supposed to be seen as 'AND' or 'OR' proof of marriage.

So far I've received two responses from divorced guys who succeeded in getting K-3 at interviews in Bangkok with only their divorce decrees and did not need their old marriage certificate. Based upon that, I'm inclined to relax about this matter. But.. since both were K-3s and not K-1s, there's still some uncertainty.

Any successful K-1s in BKK out there with some experience with this?

Thx

As i understand it, you do not need marriage certificate from previous marriage. only marriage certificate from your present marriage is needed. I never sent my marriage certificate from my previous marriage, only sent the divorce decree. hope this helps.

It states here to send back:

signed checklist

DS-230 Part I

two frontal photographs and

a photocopy of a passport photo page

Where does it now state to send back all documents?

It was stated n the Packet 3 weI we received from the Embassy/ Bangkok

I sent them an email to 1-23-09 to check on our interview date and this is an excerpt from the Embassy's email reply to me today:

"In order to schedule an interview appointment, the applicant has to return the Packet 3 materials as follow to the IV Unit by mail:

DS-230 Part I

Signed checklist

2 frontal photographs

A photocopy of a passport photo page.

And photocopies of all required documents indicated in the Packet 3 checklist.

This is our mailing address:

U.S. Embassy

Consular Section

Immigrant Visa Unit

95 Wireless Road

Bangkok

10330

Normally, the IV Unit will be able to schedule an interview appointment after having received the returned Packet 3 through the mail in 2-4 weeks later. By that time, we will notify the applicant by mail on the interview appointment date.

Regards,

Correspondence Unit "

Hello everyone! Its my first post in this thread.

I want to send my girl a valentines day card and not sure if there is still time to send via snail mail or USPS international priority to Thailand. Our last experience with DHL was horrible so I would hate to give them any more of my money..

Can some of you more experienced persons give me an idea on the time frames for different postage methods?

Thank you in advance!

Danny
