Kang Lang, Where did you get the paper work for the medical? My wife is under the impression(from a friend of hers) that we have to wait until the package is sent to her. Also what did you show the doctor(supporting paperwork) for them to go ahead and do the medical?

For Rin's (April 2007) BNH had the forms. When her children followed-to-join (Sept 2007), they did not. I went to a local internet site and downloaded them from the embassies website:

http://bangkok.usembassy.gov/immigrant_vis...structions.html

Looks like they have been updated as they had expired dates last year on the forms (the embassy accepted them even though they had expired - the doctor at BNH had commented that they were expired but filled them in anyway).

Goodluck!

John

Thanks

OK you thai'er guys and gals.

Our NOA2 was just approved on the 7th. I am in Thailand now visiting her till the 18th and wantt o prepare the P-3.

we are K-3'ers, by the way. I need some estimated timeline help with the emabssy in bangkok.

1- what, when, where can somebody point me to the tracking method of the papers leaving NVC to and arriving in BKK?

2- after filing the p-3, what is the time frame of sending the p-3 in to the interview date?

I ask these as I am trying to time sending the p-3 in to her getting an interview date about march 1.

any help and/or thoughts would be appreciated.

thanks

You can call NVC and get your BNK number and they willl tell you when it is sent out to the embassy, and then you can check DHL to find out when it arrived. Mine was sent out from NVC on 31st of Dec, and arrived Jan 2nd, we were approved on the 19th of Dec. We have not got the official word from the embassy that they have recieved the papers or not. We are waiting for the police certificate (Jan 14th), and then I will email them and see if they have it.

From what I have heard it takes between 6 and 8 weeks to get an interview date in Bangkok. Hopefully it will be shorter and I should know end of this week or next when ours is scheduled. Will let you know when we schedule ours.

1) You can track the package leaving NVC through DHL I believe.

2) When you file packet 3, and when it arrives at the embassy, it can take anywhere between 2-4 months. Sometimes more depending. Ours took about 3 months.

It's POSSIBLE to get the interview by March 1st, although (unfortunately) HIGHLY unlikely. I wouldn't count on it, to be honest with you. Usually things don't move that fast. :(

How long did it take the embassy to get the documents from the time that you got the letter from the NVC? It's been since the 18th of december when the NVC said they sent it out to Bangkok, but the embassy keeps telling me that they have not received any documents for our case. Should I be worried? Maybe it's just the holidays...

it took us about 3 weeks for the docs to be recorded at the embassy so don't panic yet. they don't necessarily process the pouch the same day it arrives don't panic unless say about 4 weeks. it will move pretty quickly once they record it so if you haven't already to save some time, order your fiancee's police certificiate and get the medical done (we did that and sent our checklist back before the one they mail to you, saved some time in getting the interview scheduled).

good luck!

It can take about a month, or longer for the documents to actually be entered into the system at the embassy like kang lang mentioned. Don't worry just yet, you're still in the clear.

Yea, about the police report... some of the people working in the Thai police office are morons and they ended up screwing up big time and there was a huge mistake with my fiance's papers.

It ended up taking a few months to get it figured out. It was entirely their fault, and they tried to have us "pay" to speed up the process of fixing their mistakes.

It's better to get it sooner than later, although not too soon.

How many wedding dates do you intend to have?! There is no reason to rush to a court house to get married, because 90 days is plenty of time to plan and get married, especially if you've already done some ground work, like finding a wedding planner, or someone like that.

Robert

Well in my case, the rush is saving 1000s of dollars if we have the wedding by December 31. The difference in income taxes between filing "single" and "married filing jointly" is pretty big. I know it's not romantic, but we discussed it and she thought it was a good idea... and after all, we had the unofficial Buddhist ceremony in Thailand back in August.

So we are doing the same thing. Courthouse wedding in December... family wedding later.

Well that's one good reason for getting married by Dec 31st!

Yeah, in our case, not sure it would have made up the difference for the more expensive flight though! Oh well.

Does anyone know a good Website (free or otherwise) to download contemporary Isan music? I kind of like it (in small doses) and was hoping to surprise my SO by having some MP3s for her to make her feel at home.

Thanks!

What a GREAT IDEA!

My Tilac said she didn't want to talk to any Thai people here once she comes because she "heard" (geez, they put SO MUCH WEIGHT on gossip and what they "hear") that the women are catty and think they're richer than so and so and the catty competition is just as bad here as it is there (I do know it's ruthless and nasty there).

I think it would be great to find some Thais locally but she told me yesterday "everybody say not do...everybody say lady not nice once they move to farang country". I tried to tell her everyone's different but that's what I get for finding a small town girl. They rely heavily on what they hear and gossip.

I guess all I can do is try and show her there are plenty of others just like her over here.

That's interesting. My fiancee and I had the exact same conversation -- me trying to hook her up with the local Thai community and she saying she's not interested. I wonder if that will change though.

That's too funny. I have been trying to get mine to meet Thai people locally since she's been here (she got here in September). She said she doesn't really care if she does or not, although she has met a friend at school who is Thai and is from Issan as well and has been here for two years. That girl can never hang out though because she's always working.

I myself haven't met any Thai people at my college, but I think even if I did she wouldn't be too interested in hanging out with them haha.

hey kang lang,

Long time no talk. How's your AOS process coming along? Good I hope!

thanks for the info. I thought I remember some people saying they got their interview in like 3-4 weeks after the embassy received the P-3? something that was really fast.

I'll nvc on friday. that'll be 1 week since they approved it so maybe they'll have something for me..

anybody out there, know about sending the p-3 in before the p-3 is sent out to the beneficiary?

I've already got the police report taken care of.

its just the interview and medical.

You know, some people may have, but from when my fiance and I went through that process, the average time was about 2-4 months, but that was in July.

The time frame may have gone down, but I do know that it's still pretty consistent throughout the year for the most part.

About sending the packet 3 out before it actually reaches the beneficiary, this is the common way to do it. We did it this way. You don't have to wait for the packet 3 to arrive, as you can just download the forms off the web. This will definitely save you a fair amt. of time.

Good luck birch-beer

Hello everyone I am back with another question. Everyone helped me so much with my (wife's) K1 visa application & I want to first say thank you again, I followed al the advice closely & it was no problem to get approved :D

Now we are both here in my home town Anchorage Alaska YEA! We have just gotten married & the paperwork is registered. So I am now attempting the papers to adjust her status. I went to my local immigration office & got a large stack of papers & while reading through them I thought that I should come here & see what info I could get to make it easier to understand.

My first question is they want me to do another affidavit of support, but since I have already done this I want to know if I need to do it again?

My second is since I am attempting to adjust my wife's status, do I need to apply for her to be able to work here? or will she have the right to work here when her status is adjusted?

Maybe I am paranoid but I have dealt with the Immigration officer before & she is very bios since her son was used by a woman, She didn't hesitate to tell me the story & add that I should marry someone in my own country :( I plan to go back to the office & hopefully speak with a different employee. Also after I am through with adjusting my wife's status I want to complain about her, but I don't want to rock the boat now.

Best of luck to everyone which ever step in the process they are at, There were many confusing times during my application process but the Great VJ members helped to guide me. :D

Max&Noo,

Congrats on the visa and wedding! Now please fill in your timeline!

You did not need all the info from the USCIS office, it is all available online.

Here is the VJ guide on AOS:

http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.ph...mp;page=k1k3aos

and AOS tips:

http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.ph...&page=k1aos

and EAD guide:

http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.ph...mp;page=k1k3ead

All of the updated forms (and fees) can be found at the USCIS website:

http://www.uscis.gov/portal/site/uscis/men...00045f3d6a1RCRD

Regarding your questions, yes an affidavit of support is required. The first one (for the interview) was the I-134. It really was to demonstrate that you had the means to support your future wife. With the AOS, you will file an I-864. This is a legal, binding contract between you and the federal government that says that if your wife receives any public assistance (i.e. food stamps, welfare, etc) that the government can collect the money from you.

Also, your wife will be able to work when her AOS is complete (greencard received). However, you can file an EAD along with the AOS application (free of charge). The EAD (employment authorization) allows her to work prior to receiving the GC. Since EAD is typically received in 60 to 90 days and GCs can be 6 months (or longer), most people file an EAD at the same time as AOS (why not, it's free!).

As an aside, your heating bill must be outrageous bringing a Thai to Alaska in the winter time!!!
