My DIL is in the USA! :) They were reunited at LAX, (L)(L)(L) , and from the 30 second conversation I had with my son, everything went very smoothly. There were no problems getting out of Bangkok as scheduled. Thanks for everyone's support.

Now I need advice from Anya. I did fetch 25 lbs. of genuine Jasmine Thai rice from Sam's today.

I guess I'd better get serious about polishing the house.

Thai Mom

Congratulation!! I'm sorry I'm a bit late, just got back from Disney World 2 days ago.. still very tired!

Anwyay, What can I help you with!

I always buy my jasmine rice from Asian market since it's a lot cheaper.

DOn't worry about my wedding. SHe's got her "single" certification already. There's no possible way anyone would know about the ceremony. If all works well, we'd do it after the interview anyway...all depends on how things are going. We're going to wing it, though.

If there's no papers, there's no wedding (same as in the US) but I understand the worry. I'm not about to blow it all away. It's just since we won't be back and we'd liek to officially get married in the US later anyways.

I can't wait...sitting here watching airplane seats fill up mid Feb returning march 31... Soon as I get NOA2, I can predicat a bit better when to go!

I told her someone who got their NOA1 the day after me just got NOA2 and she said "stop talking, I keep telling you, might as well be a year). She doesn't like to think about anything that's not actually happening!

I like to do the same but I got sucked in watching all the approvals here...dreaming....!

Does my girl need to get a certified copy of her birth cert. One with a seal on it. Do I need it? (her BC) She has one but it is a copy. She says that that is what the Amphur gave her.

My fiancee told me yesterday that her Amphur office would only photocopy the birth certificate she currently has and notorize it. They would not issue a new one. Their claim is that she has the one and only original. I asked her "What if that one were lost?" However she has no idea what it would take to go about replacing it. She does not understand how come I am recommending she have at least two official copies, but as we all know it's always good to have backups, and we never know when someone may request one. I suggested she at least get 2 notarized copies from the Amphur. She can leave one in Thailand, bring one along with the original to America.

From those who have gone through the interview, will the CO return the original if the interviewee supplies the notorized copy along with it?

My wife doesn't have a birth certificate at all. She had to get a statement from the amphur with the seal stating there is no birth certificate, then get that translated into English. See here:

http://www.travel.state.gov/visa/frvi/reci...ocity_3687.html

She also sent in a copy of her blue book (house registration), and ID card, along with English translations of these.

HYENA, You really need to be careful when you say such things as your “wedding” in Thailand. As for you saying you’d “[like] to officially get married in the US later”… well that ISN’T an option!!! You HAVE to get married in the US, as that is the purpose of the K-1 visa!!! What you will do in Thailand is go through a Buddhist ceremony for marriage, NOT getting married. As you already know, unless you register the marriage with the Amphur, and receive a Marriage Certificate, you are not legally married. Still, it’s not something you need to bring attention too, until after your fiancée has her K-1 visa in hand. If you give her a wedding band in the ceremony, which is typical, she can’t wear it to the US Embassy or going through her POC. You need to be smart about these things.

How many wedding dates do you intend to have?! There is no reason to rush to a court house to get married, because 90 days is plenty of time to plan and get married, especially if you’ve already done some ground work, like finding a wedding planner, or someone like that. Even if you get married at the court house, you will still have to wait to get the certified marriage certificate, which you must send in with your AOS paperwork.

You need to Jai yen yen!

It was our immigration attorney's who explained to me when she said she was previously married, they asked "paper married or just married?" and they explained the carnally/culturally versus legal differences common in her area. They said "if there aren't papers, it didn't happen (legal recognition)". I learned their ceremony/carnal definition and her area could care less about legal any more than I do unless it prevents something they need. Legally her parents, her Uncle who's the mayor (or whatever you call him) of their soi, her sister and brother and grandparents were never (legally) married, either but all are known as married.

Everyone's different. We're breaking no laws. We'll do the blessing ceremony there for the cultural formality ($)/announcement, then again here. Soon as she gets here, it takes less than a week to get into the courthouse and get the paperwork going (our paperwork ceremony, so to speak--hardly a marriage on our eyes). Our purpose is to appease the governments and get papers 2 months earlier so we can return to Thailand sooner. No laws against wedding bands (not that we're using one since her culture doesn't do rings in the first place), no wedding planner, we're not stuck on dates or legal whatever and we're doing what gets us paperwork fastest (2 months faster) and most importantly, we're complying with Thai and US law 100%...everything else is protected under freedom of speech and expression in both countries (rings-if we used them, ceremonies, etc)... We're doing what makes us and our families happy and not harming anyone or breaking any laws in the process.

Quick question...

Do the packet 3 docs get sent to this address, or am I missing something? Can it be written in Thai as it shows on the top of the Thai instructions in the same checklist?

Consular Section

American Embassy

95 Wireless Road

Bangkok 10330 Thailand

Thanks!
