Hi again,

This must be a new procedure. We recieved our packet 4 in Febuary. It gave us our interview date, and a list of items needed for the interview. Not a request for any copy of passport or any pictures to be mailed in, just our date and a list of items in packet 3.

She later recieved a call from the embassy asking, "If it was possible to move her interview a few days earlier?" and, " asked if she could bring in all items from the list in packet 4 on the March 3rd at 9AM, along with her passport and two passport photos.

I don't know if this is their new way. Nor do I know if you have to mail in your packet 3 items. We were expecting to bring it with us on the day of our interview until they called.

Not knowing what to do is very frustrating. Just relax,, keep your phone near you. And do everything they ask.

Brent,

I'm a little confused here. Most everyone else has either handed in at the Consulate, or mailed in, the following items:

Checklist

DS-230 Part I

Copy of passport

Two passport photos (2x2")

After that is when they received their "Packet 4" and interview date.

The only thing that had recently changed was that they were no longer accepting walk-ins to turn in the above items, and they had to be mailed.

What exactly did you do?

Robert

Anya, Dao is 402 also. you two have to talk sometime. :D

Hehehe... Hey Anya!, my wife graduated from Assumption as well.

exactly :D

on our K-1.. we used a lawyer from America though.. she's been somewhat helpful but we could've done it without her. Bram just dont want anything to be a problem that's why he sed her.. I personally never got any help from her.. and well.. dont need anyhelp in English either (graduated from Assumption U or ABAC in English - can u tell :lol::whistle: ) i need to go study grammar!!!!

I read the stickman article.. and have to agree that the last paragraph was intended as a bit of self promotion, employing a bit of scare tactics. However I feel that if you can find Stickman's site... VJ is just as easy to find so perhaps it was wasted on the wrong audience.

sweet!!! i'm a 402 and what's her's? anyway... there's a lot of ABAC students here in the US and some of them married (and some of them are guys so they r studying or have their own business) yey.. i gotta contact ur wife sometimes (i'm lazy so.. this may take a while ;p )

Anyway.. I already got the INFOPASS appointment - it's so annoying that they have only 3 days (only ion Wendesdays) in a months for us to choose from. and only in the moning!!!! we have to drive 3 hrs to Charlot so that's bad... well.. I gonna have to miss class to go :crying: but i hope to get my EAD!!!!!!! oh please please please dont approve me now!!

Brent, did they give any reason that they called her in for a "qualification" pre-interview? We have our interview on the 20th of this month and haven't been requested to come in for anything. Are there special circumstances here? Have you had a K-1 visa application for someone else before or something else?

Thanks for your help...

Ken

Did you have to send in photos and a copy of the passport photo page when you received your interview date in the mail( Packet 4 ).

Mike

Yes, we gave them:

DS230 part I unsigned

checklist

2 passport style photos

copy of passport photo page (including exit stamps she had from when she visited singapore and indonesia)

and if I'm remembering correctly, that's it. We received our appt via email and letter but we didn't have to go in and do a pre-qualification/preparation interview although that would've been nice just for peace of mind. We live in chiang mai so maybe they didn't offer us that just due to the fact that we'd have to travel to bangkok for it.

Ken, Mike, and Robert,

In this thread, my post #80, on Febuary 2, 2006. I talked about the time Wi went to window 5. Wi talked the lady into taking the following,

Checklist

DS-230 Part I (unsigned)

Copy of passport

Two passport photos (2x2")

Oddly enough, when she arrived home, the mail delivered her packet 4 with her interview date?

I guess she was the last of the walk-ins.

hope this clears things up.

Does anyone know how a couple can get divorced in Thailand? Does the marriage have to be over a year before a divorce can be granted? Can it be done without the USC being present but with a power of attourney? The marriage has been for less than a year and both people have mutually agreed to divorce. I'd appreciate any information you have regarding this. Thanks.

:D it's our student ID number - 402xxxx - the 40 is the year 2540 or 1997 and the 2 is for the student who enter in the second semester. I think most of the university in thailand have the same system but most university doesnt accept student on the second semester so they might not have the '1' or '2' part. but u can tell what year is that student by looking at their number... i think now is the year2549 so 1st year student should have at least number '49' in front of their ID number.

James,

First of all, were you married in Thailand, i.e. registered your marriage with the local Amphur? If you registered your marriage with the Amphur, then you can go back to the Amphur, with both copies of your Marriage Certificates, pay like 12 baht, fill out a couple of forms, sign, then get your Divorce Certificates right then and there. Very simple. Easier and cheaper to get a Divorce Certificate in Thailand, then a Marriage Certificate.

As for being separated, or the marriage over for a year, the answer is no, not if you go in together. You need to give them a reason why you want the marriage to end, and as long as it is mutual, i.e. no one contesting the aggreed upon settlement, then it is very simple to do. Just tell them you are not compatible, or something like that. If a Thai woman was trying to get a divorce from her estranged husband, or husband living outside of Thailand, then that's a different story.
