George, congrats on the visa. There is no requirement for a round-trip ticket, so get what ever is cheapest, or works best for you.

George - congrats! Roi-aggie is correct a one way ticket is acceptable, so cost will dictate. When Rin and I went to the Thai Airways office, the lady at the counter tried insisting that Rin had to have a round trip ticket. I told her no, showed her the visa and said she did not as she would be immigrating to the US. She disappeared into the back of the office for about 10 minutes with Rin's passport, then returned and issued a one way ticket.

This may be old news since I have not checked the board for awhile now. I have a friend that just got back from Bangkok as he went for his fiancee's visa interview. He said he was barred from going into the interview with her and had to wait outside the embassy. When he was able to talk to a State Department employee, he said they had had some trouble with petitioners arguing with the interviewers when the visa was denied and about two weeks ago some guy not only started to argue with the interviewer, but jumped over and punched the guy out. So now all petitioners are not allowed into the embassy to accompany their fiancee for the interview.

This may be old news since I have not checked the board for awhile now. I have a friend that just got back from Bangkok as he went for his fiancee's visa interview. He said he was barred from going into the interview with her and had to wait outside the embassy. When he was able to talk to a State Department employee, he said they had had some trouble with petitioners arguing with the interviewers when the visa was denied and about two weeks ago some guy not only started to argue with the interviewer, but jumped over and punched the guy out. So now all petitioners are not allowed into the embassy to accompany their fiancee for the interview.

I'm sorry to hear that, as it makes it hard for all law abiding, polite US Citizens. I would be concerned about someone who "loses" it at the consulate and becomes physically violent. My question would be, what do they do at home when no one is watching??? Someone who does that is a risk to their SO, and their fiance or spouse is better off not getting a visa. At least at the consulate there are US Marines to handle such situations.

have they changed the embassy around? i went with my husband last year for his interview and there was a gigantic bulletproof glass between us and our interviewer? i hope they haven't made a change like that seems very dangerous.

Hi, everyone.

I spent most of my time in the CSC May filers thread and figured this was a good place to be for the rest of my VJ. Our NOA2 was mailed out on 10/3/2008 and I'm not trying to figure out if NVC has our case and has sent it off to Bangkok. I e-mailed them yesterday and will call them tonight to see what's going on. Here's hoping the rest of this adventure goes off without a hitch. (Ha.)

have they changed the embassy around? i went with my husband last year for his interview and there was a gigantic bulletproof glass between us and our interviewer? i hope they haven't made a change like that seems very dangerous.

As of late July that was still the case according to my son. He says he couldn't see how anyone could jump over the barrier, and knowing his background, I tend to believe him. Perhaps there was a problem in a not-so-secure area, or they just have zero tolerance for verbal abuse.

Maybe they changed the place since I was there last. From the posts on this site, it sounds like they do it at one of those windows in the Non-USC building. Granted, I haven't been there in a couple years. I thought they just did it at window 5, not in a separate room.

i dont know but the CAN bar you from entering during your SO's interview. I know cause the Chinese consulate does do this...been there-done that. Afterwards, you can go in, but not for the interview.

If they need to go into the building, at the waiting room, they are behind glass also. So I DO NOT believe 1 iota someone went over the "barrier" and punched them out......Now maybe there was some verbal abuse going on, possible, but nobody jumped over and punched someone out.......

Yea I agree they can definitely keep you out from attending the interview, but they can't keep you from entering the US embassy for emergency issues, passport problems, etc. like daboyz was asking about.
