I have an interview question. My fiancee tried twice for a 'B' visa (and failed) before we applied for the K. I was there for one of the B interviews, but not the other. We didn't realize at the time that tourist visas have such a low approval rate in Noi's situation (poor, rural, etc.).

Her English is pretty good, but she's not fluent. At the time, I thought it would reflect well on her application if she opted for an interview in English. However, she felt that conducting the interview in English made her a bit nervous and that there may have been some misunderstanding. (for the record, I even had trouble hearing the CO through that little bank-teller thingy!).

Anyway, she's saying now that maybe the K-1 interview should be conducted in Thai instead of English.

My question is: how will that affect her chances of approval? Is she more likely to be approved if the interview is in English, which would be seen as evidence of our "common" language?

hi there, my husband also was denied for 2 b visas AFTER having been approved for 2 in the past (he came to the u.s. twice) so no bearing on your k visa at all. they will likely ask a couple of questions about them (my husband chose not to mention his girlfriend here when he applied. the interviewer did question me about them when he had his k interview) at any rate my husband started his k interview in english and wound up finishing in thai no problem. our interview was under 15 minutes and successful.

good luck!

Whether she conducts the interview in English or Thai will not have any affect. A lot of times they will be mixed Thai/English, because let's face it... it's a Farang CO trying to speak Thai!!!

Don't worry about the small stuf! ;):)

Hello All :D

I have been soooo busy getting things ready before I go to Thailand to be with Noo for 2 months :D:D:D I hope I can learn Thai Good while I am there, a little emersion learning HAHA. I am trying to get all my papers in order & I cant find the (DS-230 part 1 ) I have looked at the Gov. web page & dont see it :P What is it & where do I get it ? Also when I am there we want to finish her Visa & have her come home with me. I was hoping someone can give us tips on what order to do things so we dont have to back track. I am filling out the Packet 3 docs I downloaded because we were tired of waiting for the embassy to send them.

Thank You to all the wonderful people who have already helped Us !

I hope someday I can return the favor :D

Hello All,

At 3:30 PM Bangkok time, Joy recieved her K-1 Visa. Thank you all to those who listened. Now begins a new Journey of Marriage and a new life. This was the most difficult thing I have every done. I have lived through tragedy and death but the not knowing for such a long time was the hardest part. Now I have a new lease on life and I intend on making the best of it.

Hey quick question guys...

So my fiance arrived in the US on the 15th of September, but just wondering HOW long do we have to do everything? Like, getting married is the first step right?

I know a fair amt. about the "getting the visa" process, but now that we're in the AOS stage, I'm LOST.

I tried to check the guides but wasn't able to find anything besides a guide on how to assemble the papers, etc.

Thanks!

Also, another quick question about the expiration date of the K1. Does this only pertain to GETTING married before the date of expiration, or does it pertain to getting married and applying for AOS (all this needs to be done before the expiration)?

Thanks again

Congratulations to Thai Style! I have been rooting for you and so happy to read your news. May your marriage be blessed.

...and, congrats to Jer 08 and casinoexp and Joy.

Devkpaik - just get married and have fun while you are at it! You don't have to file AOS before the 90 days are up. I understand it's advantageous to do so early in the process though, as she'll be able to travel and get her EAD sooner.

Glad I checked in tonight.

Hello,

I'm just starting my I-129F petition, on the G-325A form where my Fiancee has to sign her name, should she sign in Thai or English or both?

Thanks for a reply

My DIL used her regular Thai signature, the one she uses for legal documents. Just make sure she signs the same way every time - that is until the time she possibly takes your name. It's probably advisable to use the same signature that is on her passport. Both my son and daughter-in-law's signature have no resemblance to their names. In some Asian cultures this is normal. Some people advise on here that signatures be in English, but that didn't seem to be an issue.

Best wishes on your journey.
