Sorry to hear about losing the papers. I have had good experiences with a translation service in Los Angeles (we live in the North Bay Area) ; you can call them for any questions about their service and can even fax them what needs to be translated into English. With a notary and translation we were charged 25 dollars for Birth certificate (this was back in 2004-2005). I would give them a call and ask

Devk, somehow i missed your post, congrats on being reunited!!!!

Max & Noo welcome to vj and good luck!

Kang Lang,

Thanks a lot, I appreciate it. She's pretty jet lagged right now. Not super bad, but definitely jet lagged for sure.

How are you guys doing?

a jet lag trick is swimming! i don't know why it helps but it does, my husband thought i was crazy but when I made him do it last year when he returned cut his jet lag down to about 2 days.

we are doing pretty good, think we finally got his medical sorted out, he's going today to get his tb skin test result and find out if his mmr anti-body test result is back hopefully, then we can just finally file for AOS fingers crossed.

Swimming huh? Sounds interesting. :) We're going to LA tomorrow to go to disneyland, etc., so I'll have her swim there haha. She seems to be doing better though, her first day she was real tired, then the next day and yesterday she's totally fine during the day but at night she's not tired haha.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you guys as well that everything turns out great, which I'm sure it will.

Good luck.

Congratulations on being together Devkplaik! Did swimming do the trick? A & J can't stand the separation anymore, so I think she's coming in December. I fear that she'll freeze to death.

To all of you in the process, I wish you well.

I use these folks for writing letters in Thai. Just write them at info@thaienglish.com. $.05 per word. If it's legal documents it may be a little more expensive. They are very nice people to work with.

Just thought I'd post this in here..................

The world is about to have another "Luk kreung" (ลูกครึ่ง).

We confirmed on Saturday that Ou is preggers. She is so excited but scared to have the baby here rather than Thailand.

I am retired USMC so I have spent the day doing paperwork to have her added to my Tri-Care insurance coverage.......what a PITA.

A question for you learned people. When last I wrote I was headed to Thailand to see my fiancee who had decided she did not want to follow through with the K-1 visa. While there I extended my trip an extra week and after a few hassles with papers the Amphur's office wanted we got married. I know how difficult it is to get a tourist visa and probably even harder now that we are married as the will probably think she will come here to stay illegally on that visa. But I do want her to come here and meet my parents, grandkids, my kids, etc.

So any suggestions on any other kind of visa I can get to get her here for 30 days or so other than a K-3 now? I'd hate to go through all that process just to get her here for about a month only and then go back to Thailand. I still plan to move there in 2-3 years when I retire again. And yes, I wish she would have agreed to finish the fiancee visa, come here for 4-5 months and then she could have gone back to Thailand. But that's not an option now that we are married.

Thanks!!

Thanks Thai Mom!

She didn't go swimming, as we're in Seattle and she said it's not hot enough haha, but I did suggest it. However, we're currently in LA (last day before we go back to SEA) and we went to disneyland and universal studios and all that stuff and she really enjoyed it, and now she's finally used to the time!

I realize this has probably been asked before, but I can seem to craft a search that will return the answer:

My timeline has my NOA2 coming next month, if all goes well. Meanwhile, my fiancee is going to bkk this weekend. Can she get her medical now or does she have to wait for the NOA2? It would save her a trip if she could get it now.

Well, your timeline estimates you'll get your NOA 2 next month, but that's just an estimate, not a guarantee. The medical is valid for like... 3 months (I think... but not 100% sure) so really, if I was you, I wouldn't do it until I actually got the NOA 2. If you do get your NOA 2 next month, then it could take up to three months for the approved petition to be sent to NVC, although most likely it would take a week to one month. From there, NVC sends it to the embassy in Bangkok, and then from there they usually schedule an interview about 3 months later.

So you're medical is PROBABLY going to expire, although this is all me assuming the medical is only valid for three months.

Good luck.

This would indicate it is valid for one year, assuming the TB test is not positive. Since USCIS accepts it for AOS for up to a year, I would think the State Dept would, as well. So you would be OK having her get it done now (assuming you will file AOS before this time next year).

http://bangkok.usembassy.gov/root/pdfs/checklist.pdf

" Medical Examination: Follow the instructions on the attached instruction sheet for obtaining a medical examination. This medical examination will also be accepted by the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services for adjustment of status to lawful permanent residence. Unless Class A or TB condition is present, a medical report is usually valid one year from the date of examination."

I'd wait to get the medical done till your sure when the interview date is....within the month before is good. When I had done a K-1 visa in 2003, we waited till a week before.

You can get the police report now though. I think this is a good idea. We just got my wifes 2 days ago and filed for it when I was in BKK last week.

Personally, I am waiting till we send the P-3 to the Embassy before i call and schedule my wifes and step daughters medical.
