Haha, why don't you just ask her? She might be saying the thai word for "kiss kiss".

Besides "i love you" mine says that to me sometimes. But we're both young/still in college so she likes to do kiddy stuff like that.

oh great, and here:

http://www.bangkokpost.com/pad_mass_protes...ass_protest.php

1,000 riot control soldiers on standby

Army commander Gen Anupong Paojinda has put about 1,000 soldiers trained in riot control on standby to back up police if the People's Alliance for Democracy demonstration gets out of control.

Local travel falls flat with protest

As many as 90% of local tourists have scrapped their immediate travel plans as security forces clashed with protesters of the People's Alliance for Democracy Friday.

Unreal birch-beer. :(

Do you guys think this will have an impact on Thai citizens LEAVING the country on visas? What I'm trying to say basically is, will all this bull**** going on in Thailand affect my fiance's ability to leave on her airplane September 15th? Hopefully those damn protesters stay away from the airport.

I hope this doesn't affect your fiance's ability to get her police report quickly.

Unf******believable.

Stupid idiot protests.

However, it says all THAI AIRWAYS INTERNATIONAL flights. As in Thai airways, the airline.

My fiance is flying on a Korean airway, Asiana. Do you think this will be affected?

Hope not. Thanks for the link though.

The protesters are blocking access to airports, from what I read at BKK Post, they have successfully blocked 3 airports. Hopefully the state of emergency will curtail this from happening.

PAD supporters in Songkha block Hat Yai airport

HAT YAI: -- Supporters of the People's Alliance for Democracy in Hat Yai headed to the international airport there to stage a protest.

The protesters blocked the entrance to the Hat Yai international airport to protest against the announcement of state of emergency in Bangkok.

Maybe a change of heart????

No Phuket airport blockade, says PAD; tourism suffers as tourists cancel trips

PHUKET, Sept 2 (TNA) - Supporters of the People's Alliance for Democracy (PAD) in Thailand's southern resort island of Phuket vowed to continue their protests despite the announcement of a state of emergency, but would not block the island's international airport.

Natcharong Eakpeumsap, head of the PAD support group in Phuket, said the anti-government protest supporters on the island would not block the airport as airline service was the only and the fastest mean of transportation which could take them to join the PAD protests at the Government House compound and at Makkawan Rangsan Bridge in Bangkok.

The Phuket PAD leader said the airport blockade would have a greater impact on international tourists rather than local travelers. The PAD would instead demonstrate at the city's Sapanhin Park.

Meanwhile, Apichart Sangaree, president of the Association of Thai Travel Agents or ATTA, said the political turmoil had threatens to damage the country's tourism industry.

The ATTA president admitted the current situation had impacts on travel agents as September was the high season of Australian and Asian travelers.

Mr. Apichart also expressed concern that if the turmoil does not end soon, the tourism industry would suffer, as from October onwards is the 'high season' period when a million European travelers usually travel to the kingdom.

The ATTA president added that the association must evaluate the situation daily and hoped the government would not declare a curfew as this would frighten the tourists. (TNA)

As of right now, you're good. Almost took the same flight as you for my fiancee, only one day later. Now she's flying China Air as it was less than $100 more and only has a 1h50m layover.

We've just got to hope the military/government won't let anyone shut down BKK. Thai is being affected because the owners of Thai Airways are actually in favor of their employees going on strike in support of the PAD, and the union is for it as well.

The good news is the PAD has backed of the train strike (saying they realize that was a bad decision) and have backed down from blocking Phuket airport (Also admitting that was a bad decision). So hopefully they'll keep their protesting focused on government entities, and not tourist/business targets like airports.

Sounds to me like the only reason those morons aren't blocking the phuket airport is because THEY need it so they can fly back and forth to the other PAD protests.

I'm wondering if this will affect ALL international travel, or just Thai airways. I don't see why Asiana, a korean airline, would be affected, unless they close the whole airport, knock on wood.

Shawndoc,

Yea, I'm thinking (AND HOPING) that this will have no effect on airlines such as Asiana, China air, etc, as Asiana is a Korean airline, and China Air is a Chinese airline. I can't think of any reason they'd shut these down as they could probably care less about the crisis going on in Thailand. Makes sense as to why a Thai airline would be involved, but not an airline which originates from a diff. country like China, Asiana, EVA, etc. Like you said, I'm hoping they won't shut down the airport (suvarnabhumi). I can't see why they would as this would totally destroy their tourism, etc. (even though it's already being destroyed)

So when is your fiance flying over to the US then?

Good Morning

Well I received a phone call from my congresswoman this morning. She made contact with the embassy on friday this was her secound inquiry with them. She told me not to expect much but it couldn;t hurt. I was told that the embassy informed her that our case is still in admin review however they did not require any further information from my fiance

or myself and that they could not give a time for the completion of the admin review. I hope the fact that they kept her passport and the fact they require nothing else from us means that it might be something as simple as a name check, because she has a common Thai last name, I've heard that this can produce "false hits" of which they (the embassy) is required to look into. Sooo... a little bit of info is better than nothing. I'll keep everyone informed.

Birch/Beer

Please keep us informed as to what you incounter when you arrive at BKK. because if I don't hear something in a week or so I'm planning on heading over there around the 23rd of Sept. Thanks and good luck

It seems the yellow-shirted pro-democracy protesters may succeed in overthrowing their second elected government. Hooray for Thai democracy.

Agreed on the baht -- at least that's good.

Here's hoping for no further disruption in travel.
