I checked on Am Airlines in October when we plan to bring her over if all goes well and it's about $1400 one way. Same price as now actually. But we are going to go to the Japan Airlines office in BKK when I am there after 8-16 and see what kind of price we can get. There is also the idea of buying a round trip ticket and getting a refund on the return part. But you have to make sure it is refundable first.

Great outfit but yellow is not my color!!!!

Read the interview review, Roi Aggie. Good review. I'll send it to her to read. She has had experience with the embassy before and was not very

happy with them so I am hoping she will keep her cool and just answer the questions and get the visa and we can get out of there.

A Thai woman not keeping her cool?!

I'm shocked!!!;)

Try looking at chivasgeo's interview review as well. He has a very detailed write-up.

http://www.visajourney.com/timeline/profile.php?id=2634

2 quick questions...

1) How did you guys get the SS card? I filled out that I wanted them to assign a SS# to her on the visa forms, but do we have to go to the SS office to get the card or do they just send it to her in the mail eventually?

2) Can she get a state ID while we are waiting to get married or does she need her green card first?

Thanks all!

Steve & Bualai

hey there steve & bualai,

it turns out that regardless of checking that box for an ssn you are very unlikely to have one assigned. just wait about 10-14 days after arrival and go to your local ssa office. my husband's ssn arrived 7 days after we applied. once you have the ssn you can get a state id in some states. we were able to in california it also arrived 7 days after we applied.

good luck!

lin

Lin is correct. That box on the DS-230 is for IR1/CR1 visas. You must wait the 10 to 14 days so that there is time for your fiancee's information to be entered into the data base. You will need to do this before you're married and get it in her maiden name. After you're married, and as long as your I-94 still has 15 days left on it, you can go get a new card with her married name on it. Both of these cards will have a stamp on them saying she is not authorized to work.

As for state IDs, each state is different, so you will need to look up the requirements on your state's website. Most do require a SSN, along with birth certificate or passport. Some states won't let you get a state ID or DL until you get your conditional GC.

Guess we did post about the same time. I printed it out so we can find it. That's good to know for the future if I ever have a ticket problem.

I remember taking the BTS there. It is between the Ploenchit station and Siam station. Seemed the walk was about the same from either station.

My girl knows BKK very well and she will know where to go. I would be interested to see if the price is cheaper than what I can get online for one way when she comes over.

I am not completely understanding what you wrote. What do you mean by "over the limit"? Were you making over than the 125% poverty level? If you are making 4 times the requirement this year, then a letter from your employer, along with a few pay stubs should be more than sufficient to show you have the finacial means to take care of your fiancee. You can't get a co-sponser, and certainly not for a previous year.

POE DFW 2009-03-07

Received SS card 2009-03-17

Received GC 2009-04-01

Done for 3 years or 10 years. Haven't decided yet.

(I'm going for the IR-1 and blowing off the K-3. Even if it takes an extra couple months, it's worth it to not have to deal with USCIS again)

"Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, the wretched refuse of your teeming shore. Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me, I lift my lamp beside the golden door!"

Note:

Please fill out I-130, wait 6 months for approval, then 3 more months for an interview. (Unless of course we've bombed your country into the stone age, then you qualify for expedited processing.)

Welcome to the USA!!!
