Hi guys,

Now since we have the visa we are trying to schedule flights and the such for a trip to the US. Here is where I want to make sure before I purchase the tickets. Is anyone familiar with the Point of Entry (POE) procedures? Are there only specific airports that allow POE's? I have read over VJ and it seems most people fly into LA or JFK, but I always fly in and out of ATL Hartsfield-Jackson as it is the closest international airport to me. Do we have to use NY or does ATL allow immigrant visa processing?

Cheers,

Alvin

I guess it's Port of Entry....

Yes, you can go through Atlanta. The POE reviews are here: http://www.visajourney.com/reviews/poereviews.php

Happy and safe travels.

Thai Family,

Thanks a bunch for that. Interesting reading and it seems ATL is a decent POE. Good deal.

Thai mom, I was supposed to go in June for 3 weeks but she wanted me to cancel and save the money and come for the interview, which I had planned to do anyway. So now I will get online with her and work out the dates for arriving in time to make sure all is in order before the interview and we will plan the trip to Phuket with her daughter while school is out. Never been to Phuket in any of my 8 other trips to see my lady so it should be interesting.

I would suggest Krabi if you haven't been there. We took our kayaking and island hopping excursions from there. We liked it better than Phuket - not quite so crowded. Of course we were there high season, so that can make a difference.

Have fun!

Did a quick check of airfares this morning before I left for work and was shocked to see that Am Airlines had raised the round trip to BKK $6-800 from just a couple days ago when I checked. That really sucks!!! I am sure others are doing the same.

A little advice on the airfares. I usually use Orbitz to check for the fares. When I find a good one (Hopefully on American) I just book it directly on the airlines website. The nice thing about Orbitz is after you search, it will give you a 3 day before and 3 day after window on both the outbound and the return. click on 'expand search options' after you search. Then check search one day before and one day after. That will pull up a matrix. At the bottom you can choose 3 days before and after for both the departure and return. So this will pretty much give you a matrix of a seven day span for both the departure and return with the fares. This is all dependent on your dates being flexible. Lately the cheapest I've seen is around $1250 USD round trip out of DFW.

Another thing, if you try to book the flights, less than 2 weeks before departure, they go way up.

I normally fly AA exclusively since I used to be married to a res agent...loved those free flights or cheap first class!!!....and that's where all my miles are and I just like them, but two days ago it was around $1260 or so RT from North Carolina....but you check today and see what it is even at BTS which I have used in the past. After BTS adds on a zillion bucks in taxes it's still about the same price or more than booking directly with AA. They said they were going to raise the fares after posting such huge losses yesterday but I didn't think they would do it this fast. Everytime I have gone over the flights have been full so they can't be losing money on the intl. flights. It's only going to get worse in Sept. when they all start eliminating flights. I don't know how much it will affect intl. flights since there are not as many as domestic, but I am sure it will have some impact on at least getting to your final destination if it's not one of the major airports that the intl. flights land at.

LittleAsianMan,

Did your fiance get that visa yet? I have been waiting to hear the news. My DIL is to pick up her police report the 23rd, the day before her interview. Hopefully there will be no hitches. My son will be with her, but that may or may not be a good thing.

Hey Thai mom,

No this coming Monday will be one week since she turned in her police report to them. They told her she has to wait 1-2 weeks to get the visa, so I told my fiance to call the embassy on monday and ask the status of the visa.

It's good to see things moving along for a few people. Even though I've just started my journey, I can't wait to see where it ends up. After all, I've got a lifetime, lol. I just wish that it wasn't taking so dang long for Petition approvals. I also agree that the U.S. and Thailand not having a better policy on tourism is B.S.
