Yea it's unbelievable how things work there huh? You would think that people would do the right thing, by returning something that doesn't belong to them. I guess helping one another out is too much to ask, and if there is no monetary reward for helping, well then screw it.

So since you didn't get it back, how did you get another paper?

Unreal how unorganized these idiots can be.

Littleasianman,

She just went to police station and asked if there was anyway she could get a copy, but they told her it was impossible as they had to be stamped by the head-honcho or someone. They guy she talked to said he would try his best to get her a new one faster. I can't remember the day that she was to have received the first certificate, but he said most likely they would have her another one on the 20th. I know she called him a few times, and she went to the station to pick the certificate up this time. From all she said the police really tried to help her out and work with her on this.

I will ask her some more specifics for you. Maybe she remembers the guys name who helped her out.

When Rin went for the police certificate, she had the option of mail or pickup. She elected to pickup (they told her to return on a certain day). I went with her to get it; it took about 15 minutes.

Shawndoc,

Thanks, yea we have a lawyer who's been trying to get it back for us, and I've been kind of pressuring the law firm to get it back for us, but they pointed out that it's not like America, where we can't harass them and flip out at them, etc., because they'll just react to it by probably taking a longer time than before " to teach a lesson" and do it out of spite, so our lawyers were saying the best thing we can do is to just constantly remind them without being confrotational.

John,

Yea, we had our lawyers pick up the paper from the station, not get it sent in the mail, but the police screwed up at the station and gave the wrong papers to some other idiot (who still hasn't returned it). They tried to give our lawyers the wrong persons paper, and my lawyers were like, "no this isn't our paper, why the hell do we want this one, give us the correct one", and the police said, "oh sorry we gave your paper to another person by accident".

ugghhh idiots... I dont see how they can make this mistake. Youd think theyd have to show ID to pick up the paper seeing as how the "almighty head-honcho" has to sign it.

Ughhh, thanks for responses guys.

Oops, just realized the last part where I said thanks for the responses sounds sarcastic but it wasn't.

Seriously, thanks for the info. Shawndoc, did the embassy approve your fiance's petition at the interview even though she didn't have the police report, or did you have to wait for it to be approved?

thanks

FINALLY, partial success with Packet 3!!!!!! They received her documents without the checklist she forgot to send and called her today, Friday, to tell her to mail the checklist, which she has done. This is only the THIRD time we have mailed the papers and it's getting costly to get passport photos and pay for her printing the papes at internet cafes, etc. So maybe now I will get lucky and finally get an interview date early next week after the checklist arrives. A sigh of relief on my part since she first got the Packet 3 the end of April.

Hello all.. alright the hard part is done.. my wife is here on her K1. what now? i already went to our local SS office and requested her number.. where do i go from here?

Hey Wasan,

One thing that we did as soon as my fiancee got here 15 months or so ago was to get her a state ID. We're in Michigan, so all they required was two forms of ID in order to get the State ID. So, we first got married and had our marriage certificate as one form of ID, then we had also applied for SS and had that as a second form of ID. So, she easily received her State ID from the Michigan DMV.

Why get a State ID? I did it so I could have another form of evidence to send in with our AOS package. The State ID came in my wife's married name and had our address on it, which is pretty good proof for the AOS for establishing residency.

So, we sent a copy of her State ID in with our AOS package. By the time that we had our AOS interview in Detroit, my wife had passed her Driver's License test. So, we were able to show some progression in our ongoing marriage/relationship in that manner.

I don't know if you're wife is planning on immediately getting a drivers license here in the USA or not, because it can be a slow process in some states. Plus, alot of people in Thailand don't know how to drive because they just take tuk-tuks or motorbikes. Plus, in the USA they have to learn to drive on the opposite side of the road, which wasn't easy for my wife!:whistle:

So, if you think you might not have a DL before you send in your AOS, the a State ID is a good idea...

Other than that...I'm sure the folks on here gave you some other good advice for the overall AOS process, plus the guidelines on here are very good. I did our own AOS simply by following those guidelines and asking some questions on here...

Peace to you and good luck on your journey.

So after all of those lovely stories about what should be a straight-forward process, what advice do you have for my DIL who is going to Bangkok July 1st (Tuesday) to get her police report? She doesn't like going to Bangkok by herself in the first place, and has been putting this off. She can't wait to do it until my son gets there, as he leaves here the 8th and the interview is on the 24th. I don't want to scare her, but if there is something that would be helpful, that would be good. Thanks for the tips!

Oh wow, my fiancee is going to request her police report on July 1 as well, and hates the fact she's going alone. You think they'd be interested in meeting up and doing it together?

I don't know. She lives about 2 1/2 hours outside of Bangkok. The latest reports on getting a police certificate there aren't terrible consoling. She is planning to do her medical in the same trip. I remember seeing the official link to the Royal Thai Police and what the procedure is, so we'll have her take a copy of it, plus a copy of what the US Embassy sent her, as well as the required documents.

I think my wife is going to go as well this week. I think she will fly down from Chiang Mai on Tuesday or Wednesday. Not sure if it will be Tuesday. She knows where the police HQ is in Pathumwan, she used to deliver flowers there. She would meet up I'm sure to help out. Send me a PM , and I'll forward her number to you. She know's Bangkok pretty well.

Hi...

To All Thai Immigrants...

I'm really starting to freak out a bit. I'm so worried that my Thai fiancée will have a very hard time when she moves here. I live in Kansas City, MO and it's NOTHING LIKE Thailand and about 50 times smaller than Bangkok. There's not really any sort of Thai-town here and I know very few people (2) from anywhere near Thailand.

Short of talking to the owners of Thai restaurants... how would you suggest that I find places for her to be comfortable. "Community" is a big part of life in Thailand and maybe if I can meet some folks here I could even find her some work? Now that I think about it maybe talking to the restaurant owners isn't such a bad idea...
