How close is the embassy in Bangkok to a BTS stop?

I think Chong Nonsi might be the closest. You can take a taxi/motosai from there.

If you take the Skytrain to Ploenchit station and then walk down Wireless Road you'll get to the Embassy. I'm not sure exactly where the entrance for visa services is, but it is probably around a 10 minute walk from the BTS station.

Wireless Road is near Ploenchit BTS station. Visa services is on the left (just past a walking bridge) as you are walking down Wireless away from Ploenchit Road. You will pass a site marked US Embassy on the right, this is not visa services. Keep going and it will be on the left (once you are on Wireless, just ask, most everyone will know where it is). Here is a link to the embassies map.

http://bangkok.usembassy.gov/service.html

Visa services are located in the same building as American Citizen Services.

To those who have gone before me, i give you all props for going through this K-1 visa process. A lot of these forms are repetitive/redundant and should be able to just refer to the I-129f. Anyway, my fiance and I are working on packet 3 and i just have a couple of questions. I searched and did not really find the answers i was looking for.

1. For the BKK police certificate, does my fiance need the original documents or are copies ok?

2. I have a co sponsor. On the second page of the I-134 where it says "If the affidavit is prepared by someone other than the sponsor, please complete the following: I declare that this document was prepared by me at the request of the sponsor and is based on all information of which I have knowledge." Does my co sponsor sign/date this part? Thanks in advance.

Did any of you ever successfully contact the embassy by email this week? I just got back the automated reply from my fifth inquiry.

Thanks,

Thai Mom

Dagobert,

Has anyone tried contacting the US embassy in BKK lately?

I am aware of the format required to email the embassy as I have sent like 17 emails to them, however today I keep getting the automated message sent to me, and i've never gotten it before.

Maybe they blacklisted my email address haha!

Dear fellow Thai VJ ers,

I'll post one of the questions I sent the embassy, and seek your advice, since I keep getting the robot.

1) The petitioner requests advice regarding his I-134 affidavit of support. He has more than adequate earned US income for 2008, as evidenced by pay stubs and a letter from his employer; however he did not file taxes in 2007, as he was not required to since he was a full time student in Thailand. He is a recent graduate of _______University. His sources of income were his non-taxable VA education benefits, supplemented by some savings. He has proof of this, along with his ongoing social security earnings statement and his most recent tax transcript, which is from 2005. He was in Thailand on a student visa and not permitted to engage in gainful employment.

Being a recent college graduate and a USMC veteran, he is confident in his ability to support his wife. If a co-sponsor is advisable in this situation, are they allowed to submit documents by mail directly to the embassy? Security of the sensitive information is of concern.

Thank you kindly for your assistance.

I-134 - partially answering my own question:

I called the DOS visa information line and spoke with a visa specialist. This is not the NVC, but is one of the numbers listed in the automated reply for BKK. or by FAX at

The gentleman was nice and said since the petitioner (sponsor) didn't file taxes for 2007, they would need to send a notarized statement stating why they were not required to, and any supporting documents available. He did say that the CO would look at the whole picture, especially at current income, as evidenced by the employer's letter and pay stubs. When asked about using a cosponsor, he said it is always a good idea when there is any question. As expected, he told me that the decision is at the consular officer's discretion.

I hope this helps someone else. My questions are still not completely answered, but are they ever?? Until my DIL is a US citizen there will always be questions about this process.

The phone and fax numbers for general visa information in the states are 202-663-1225 and 202-663-3899 respectively. I don't know why they didn't show up in my previous post. You can expect to be put on hold for a considerable time, but at least they don't cut the call off.

Thai Mom,

I asked my lawyer what to do about co-sponsor and whether or not because my parents filed taxes jointly, they both have to provide an affidavit.

My lawyer told me that she needs to make 100% sure of this but that it's not a requirement to turn in 3 affidavits, however it couldn't hurt.

She is going to ask her boss to make sure about this.

The minute I find out I will post the answer.

also I sent the embassy an email last night and i didn't get the automated response!

Hopefully someone is back doing their job!

i need some help and hope someone who has already filed aos can help. i am gathering the documents for my husband and realized that he doesn't have a copy of the medical. so he got the shots etc and failed to get a copy. has anyone been able to contact bumrungrad after the fact and get a copy? (i still have all the information relevant to his appt. since i made it for him online.) but i am worried about him getting the medical shots again don't think that's wise also cost prohibitive since you cannot use insurance for that.

any advice is very much appreciated.

Hey everyone,

So I was able to get a response from the embassy finally. I asked them about the co-signer situation I had where my co-signer filed taxes jointly.

Basically, they responded with this email where they told me that they don't accept co-sponsors.

I called my lawyer immediately and she told me that they DO accept co-sponsors as they always have, however I'm just confused why the embassy would tell me otherwise. Or maybe I don't fully understand the email. anyways, I've copied and pasted it here.

Dear Mr. _____________________

The visa Ms. _______________ is going to apply is K-1 fiancé visa. In order to establish that you can support the visa beneficiary when she is in the U.S., you need to provide the I-134 Affidavit of Support. The form has to be submitted with your recent tax return form or W-2. As the I-134 is not legally binding, the petitioner is the one who fills out the form. Unlike the I-864 Affidavit of Support for immigrant visa application, you cannot have any joint sponsor for the I-134.

Regards,

Correspondence Unit

Anyone have any idea about this?

Littleasianman,

The way I read their response is to the very letter of the I-134 and maybe just a semantics misunderstanding. You can't file a joint or co-sponsored single I-134, but will have to file a separate I-134 for each sponsor of the I-129F. You as the US fiancée will be the primary and the second I-134 would be the co-sponsor. At least this is my understanding. Their letter is correct, but they sure as hell do not offer and extra information.

Cheers,

Alvin
