I am trying to find a decent hotel for my fiancee to stay at when she goes to BKK tomorrow, she has her physical on the 14th. I sure as hell don't want her staying at Dynasty or any other hotel on Soi 3. Any suggestions that are clear of the illicit side of BKK and close to Bumrungrad Hospital?

I would also like to be able to pay via CC online if that is possible, that will surprise her so she will have more spending money at MBK.

Thanks!!

Hey everyone. Wanted to give an update since Im over here right now.

Interview came and went, and all is APPROVED!

Finally, all done!

I am so happy.

But i wanted to give everyone a heads up on the new process that they are doing since the interviews started back up in march.

NO ONE and I mean no one can come up to the counter for the interview like before. No lawyers, no fiance, no one.

If you plan to go to the interview, you basically have to sit there and do nothing.

SOme of the people giving the interviews are nice. A couple questions is all they ask, the approved. Others...not so much. They want to know a lot more about everything.

The interviewer giving my fiancee the interview seriously drilled her with questions for a good ten minutes.

I stood up and walkd over by the wall so I could hear all the questions being asked to all of the girls as I waited her turn.

SOme got out of there with a simple "where does he live" or "Where did you meet him."

Others, like my fiancee got the FULL interview.

Id recommend anyone who has an intrerview coming up soon, have your fiancee know inside and out the details of everything you mentioned on the "proof of having meet in past 2 years" paperwork, because there is a chance they will ask many many questions. ANd it can be hard to hear them talking. Its very load in that room.

Oh, and it CAN take more than a few days to get the VISA. some got them same day. Some the next day. We had to wait 4 days for ours. But Im finally out of Bangkok now. Now Im spending some time relaxing up in Udon.

Hope all is well with you all. And I hope anyone having an interview soon has good luck and gets one of the easy lines for the interview with little questioning!

We are heading to the States on the 16th together. FInally after more than a year this is all over.

Im very happy right now.

I would suggest staying near Central World/Pratunam area. Options would include:

Courtyard by Marriott (just opened late last year - close to the Grand Hyatt)

Plaza Athenee (on Wireless Road)

Arnoma (across the street from Central World - adjacent to BigC)

Grand Diamond Suites (next to Pratunam Fashion Mall)

All of these are within a 40 to 50 thb taxi ride to Bumrumgrad (or within walking distance of the skytrain).

My sales agent from Hong Kong stays at the Pathumwan (sp?) Princess Hotel which is adjacent to MBK. She likes it and says they have a great breakfast.

Best of luck!

Good luck with your interview Thaistyle! And congrats TMC on you sucess!!

Sqdngns, I always stay at a small hotel on Soi 10, Ruamchitt Travelodge. It's quiet and very basic but works for me. There is a really nice new park on the corner of soi 10 and it's really improved the neighborhood! There is another new place on soi ten, Cozy at Ten, it's small and overlooking the park. I haven;t stayed there but looked at the rooms and hey were really nice and new! Asok or Nana BTS stations are very near or she can just walk to Bumrungrat from there. I have never booked at Ruamchitt online or by CC but I think it's possible.

Asia Hotel is often reccomended though I haven't stayed there and they literally have a ramp that exits to the Ratchatewi BTS station. Walking distance to MBK. You can find Asia Hotel at any of the Thai booking sites.asiarooms.com, Sawasdee

Thanks for the heads up and CONGRATS to you and your better half!!

Anyone know if I need to do a "certificate of non-marriage" along with my Fiancee? Just curious.

If you have never been married, I don't think the USC has too. Have you ever been married? If so the divorce decree will be sufficient.

Thanks Jamie, John and bigsky!

I am going to have her stay @ Ruamchitt Travelodge, close enough to the hospital and far enough from Nana.

Glad to help! Hope she likes it. I've spent lots of time there in the past three years. The new Chuvit Park on the corner is really nice. A big hello to Joom and Aek at the front desk from me(Jim).

OK, fiancee is at Bumrungrad right now for her physical.

They are telling her that she needs the shot for cervical cancer since she is under 26 years old and it will cost 12,000 baht. Is this true? Nowhere on the paperwork for her medical and on the embassy web site it states that this shot is required?

I spoke to one of the nurses and she said that this has been a requirement for 3 months now. #######!!

This shot is not even required here in the states and I think the hospital is scamming.

I just fired off an e-mail to the embassy for clarification, tried calling but it is only a recorded message.

This pisses me off.........

Got a fast answer from the embassy. My fiancee is going back tomorrow for the physical.

Jamie, PM your fiancee's name, she is having her physical tomorrow too, right? Maybe our honey's can have lunch after their medical????

The e-mail:

Dear Mr. SqdnGuns:

No, the shot for cervical cancer is not required for immigration purpose.

Regards,

Correspondence Unit
