Hi All!

Thisa and I were married on Feb 10th. In my haste to do the deed I placed the ring on the WRONG hand. We had a small service in our home with a few family members and a cake and some fruit after the service. All in all a very nice day.

Now the AOS process begins. I have a couple of questions if someone could give me some input.

We are going today or tomorrow to change her S.S.N. to reflect her married name. Do I wait until this is complete with S.S.A. and then fill out the forms with her first name and my last name on the form? I'm concerned that her K-1 and Passport have her maiden name. I've also considered using her maiden name as her middle name on the I-485 and supporting documents.

Rich,

I could be totally wrong here.. hopefully someone with more experience will jump in. My understanding is SSN Card before marriage > marriage > AOS/EAD > receive either AOS/EAD card before you can change her SSN card to her married name.

I read on another post a warning about surrendering your card while trying to complete this process: Don't. I believe SS administration is required to keep/destroy the old card while her new one is processing. Give them her SSN verbally.

We filed EAD/AOS in Dao's married name. Don't be concerned about Passport at this point, it's not a problem for it to be in her married name as long as you have your marriage certificate. Technically she is no longer here on a K1 because she is now married.

and finally..... CONGRATULATIONS!!!

For the SS Card, we had the name change to married name after marriage just show the marriage certificate as proof. This was done before submitting AOS-EAD.

My wife wanted to use her maiden name as a middle name and thats how we applied it in the AOS application and also in her Calif ID card (name change on Calif ID also done after marriage).

Congratulations to Richard & Thisa!!

skyman,

That instruction sheet that you attached - is that the instruction sheet that came in Cherry Blossoms' visa application package that the consulate mailed or gave to her?

Yodrak

Here are the forms in packet 3. DS230, DS156, DS156k, and DS157. They are real simple so don't worry. I am attatching the official Packet 3 instructions also. Write back soon and good luck! Kirk and Jenny.

Rich,

Thisa may have a problem trying to get the name on her SS card changed at this point, since the name she wants put on the card does not match the name in the USCIS' SAVE data base. Some SSA offices will issue a new card with a changed name on the basis that the marriage certificate is sufficient to explain the discrepancy, but some offices will not. If she does run into a problem, no big deal - the important thing is that she has the card.

Thisa should apply for adjustment, and whatever else with the USCIS, using whatever name she wants to be known by going forward. Simple as that.

Hi All,

It's been a long time since I have been on VJ. I think the last time I was here was back in December. Looks like I need to do some reading to see what has been happening.

I know that this is in the K1 forum but I have a question for those of you out there that have travelled back to Thailand with your Thai wife. Here's the situation. We are heading back to Thailand on March 2nd. Ying's passport has here maiden name while her Green Card is in her married name. We have heard that her airline ticket can be issued in either her maiden name or her married name as long as we have her passport, green card and our marriage certificate showing her married name and maiden name.

Does anybody have any experience with this?

Hey Gene, nice to see you visit here...lol

I think most international airlines will request to see the passport. Immigration when you return should not want to see the airline tickets, so I would assume you should use the name in her passport.

Hi All

I just found this thread that relates to Thailand great Info thanks.

We go for our Interview on April 7th In Bangkok, can Anyone give me some ideas about what they will ask us?

We have been together for 5 years have 2 kids and we live and work in Chiang Mai. My wife and Kids have visited the US once last year when we got Married, Finally

I am a bit nervous As my Income tax for last 3 years shows an Income short of Poverty level by about 3000.00 Dollars. We own a house in Las Vegas worth about 200k and have some cash in the Bank.

How hard do they Scrutinize? the I-864?

Plus we own a extremly profitable Amercian Franchisee here in town But not sure how to show those Asetts? Show my Tax records in Thai?

Also will we be able to travel back and forth with a CR-1?

Thanks for any Help--

-Robert

Same with us-no experience yet...(going back in Sept) and we just bought Pocky's airline tix (EVA) with her maiden name. Well hope you both will report on what happens as an FYI to all of us when you return from the trip.

Things are a bit better now. We still have some issues, but we are trying to work on them. I took her to the olive garden yesterday and she seemed to like it. I still have no idea what to get her for our fist valentines day together.

I am happy to hear things seem to be settling down with you two. I never thought to take Paiwan to the Olive Garden, I will have to try that and see how she likes pasta. And, like you, I was at a loss as to what to do for valentines day. So I opted to make her dinner ... I think she was excited and curious, and I did manage a 6/10 score ... .

I have been having fun talking to her about things in the past and during our first meeting, as she can now actually tell me things she couldn't then. It is kinda funny! She likes to remind me that "I not speak I not understand english then". I ask her if she speaks and understands english now .. "no .... um .. littlebit".

We went to eat lunch the other day, and there was not one other patron in the resteraunt, slow day I guess, and we got seated and I had to use the restroom. When I came back Paiwan was all a fuss, as she explained to me how the guy came up to her and asked her what she wanted to drink but she did not understand at first and he had to say it three times before she got it and said water ... she laughed it off but I could tell in her eyes she was not happy I left her to fend for herself ... <I really need to do this more often me thinks! )

I found and gave her her cell phone charger for her phone from thailand (yes, we kept it to take back since we can recharge it and use it in thailand), and she thought she had lost it. she was actually shocked! She told me how much she loved and missed her phone. So she charged her phone and then showed me all the text messages I had sent (I never knew if she had gotten them), and she told me when she got them she did not understand them, but now she understood more of it. Then she spent like 30 min playing with the phone and the ringers and such .. i just let that one go ...

Tomorrow is the planned AOS package mailing day! then its back to USCIS hell again.

and wow, I have been married almost 2 weeks now. time flies!

Depending on your cell provider, it may be possible for her to use her phone here. Dao brought her phone with her and we signed up for t-mobile, took the cheap (free) phone option. Pulled the sim card out and put it into her phone from thailand and viola.. she can use her old phone and is very happy.

hmm, never really thought of that .. lucky she liked the free phone that she got .. so if we CAN do that it won't be any loss ... i will look at that when i get home. thanks.

Anya,

I think probably getting RFE might delay your case a bit..

I sent AOS, EAD, and AP on January 5 2006. I got NOA for each on 17 Jan.

On 8 Feb, I got appointment letter for both AOS and EAD biometrics which is scheduled on 3 March.

You do not have to worry about it yet..I have seen some of our Thai friends on USvisa4thai forum getting greencard within 3 months!! This is unbelievably fast...
