well....

my fiance has lost her main visa appointment letter from packet 4. (the one that must be presented to the office on the appointment date ... the one that has the date/time/case#/applicants on it....)

i have a copy of it here in the states and i'm sending it to her tomorrow. you don't know how lucky i am to even have it. it's like pulling teeth to get her to make copies of anything.

anyway ..

she thinks that the original was actually printed on pink or green paper, but she cannot remember. does anybody know what color it was on and how important the color may be?

she's also freaking out that she won't have the original. i told her that it's no big deal to have a copy and that the paper is probably just used to quickly gather her information on the day of the interview. do you think i'm correct about this?

thanks for any thoughts

dvd

dvd,

Don't worry about it. Rin never received her packet 4. I sent the embassy an e-mail regarding it and they sent an e-mail back and told me to just bring a copy of the e-mail with us. When we arrived, we went to window 5 and turned in Rin's packet and they never asked to see the letter or e-mail.

Good luck,

John

lin,

A couple of years back my wife and I had a problem with this. No sense telling you how we resolved it, procedures at the consulate have changed since then. Suffice it to say that it was a good 4 weeks between the time the approved petition left the NVC and the time that the IVU recognized that they had it. Others have experienced similar times.

I would suggest that if 6 weeks have passed and your fiance has not received a visa application packet he submit his DS-230-I and signed checklist anyway in the expectation that the petition has arrived. More or less time depending on how cautious or aggressive you and he feel.

Or follow the advice or your visa service. Such advice is one of the things you'll be paying for.

goontar,

It isn't going to be a certificate and it isn't required of everyone.

A divorced person proves that they're single by presenting a divorce certificate. If a never-married person is asked to prove that they're single - it's rare, but it sometimes happens - they take several close acquaintances, and perhaps a village VIP, to the amphur and they all submit written statements on a sheet of paper having the Garuda at the top attesting to the their knowledge that the person has never been married. Then the amphur official stamps the statements two or three times with 'the big red seal' to certify them.

Or, get the amphur official to prepare a statement to the effect that the person has never registered a marriage in the amphur.

Yodrak

Does anyone know anything about the "Certificate of Being Single"? Is this necessary for everyone? Thanks.

Goontar,

To add to Yodraks reply....my wife got one from her local amphur (shes never been married). She was accompanied by her father. Her local amphur produced an official document that states my wife has never registered a marriage in that local amphur. I dont think its necessary to get BUT if it will make you and your fiance worry less, then why not get one. By the way, the US consulate never asked for the document from my wife during her K-1 interview.

Your passport is proof. In filling out the I-129 it states that you can use your passport as proof but will need a copy of the entire passport as proof. You should be fine and you shouldn't need your passport. I know that mine is part of my I-129. I can not make the interview due to work conflicts. I believe that with you being there just enhances the relationship portion of the interview.

Kang Lang,

You can email the embassy to find out if they have recieved the package. I did this after we sent our package in and they were very nice about it. What I asked was if they recieved the package from the NVC and if they did then you can expect package 3 to be mailed within a week. Also, if you go to the embassy site you can find out what you need to gather for package 3.

So I have another predicament, I know this is really really stupid but I'm sure you guys have some advice as to what to do any help is appreciated.

i do in fact have a lawyer here in the u.s. working on the petition and they drafted all the letters, how we met, intent to marry etc. and we just signed them. i made the egregious error of not carefully checking the content as i was frustrated by the length of time it takes to get stuff in the post from thailand so long story short the error is my lawyer included an "extra visit" to Thailand that never happened. obviously my passport does not reflect it and i have no evidence to support it. at any rate has this happened to anyone and what did you do about it? our petition is already at the embassy so i am freaked out we'll get denied based on this STUPID STUPID error on my part. :help::help::help:

Does anyone know anything about the "Certificate of Being Single"? Is this necessary for everyone? Thanks.

Hey Goontar,

At our BKK interview, the IVU did request for the 'certificate of being Single'. The CO (great guy!) explained to us that it was required in our case because my fiancee had never been married, but at the same time had children. He explained that the document would be required in our case just to 'avoid any future/possible custody disputes' with bringing her kids to the United States on a K2 Visa.

We had never heard of this document before the interview. My fiancee had to travel back to Chiang Mai, get the document from the local Amphur, and then return it to the IVU unit in BKK before her visa would be issued. Due to the timing of our return flights (which were for 3 days after the interview), I actually just returned alone to the United States, and rescheduled her flight to the U.S. My fiancee picked up the form in Chiang Mai about a week later (easy to get...just asked for it at the desk and they printed out a form and gave it to her...no other family members or friends needed to help provide additional proof). Then, I came back to BKK about a month later and we turned it in together...and they issued the visa the same day.

I agree with the posting below that suggests to get one. For us, it was easy to get...and it was free...you might not need it, but just in case...

Peace and GOOD LUCK!

wonder if anyone who is ahead of me in the process can offer some guidance, our petition left nvc on 20 april, my question is does anyone have any idea about the following...A) are you able to contact anyone at the embassy regarding packet 3, when it will be sent out etc.? B) also is it possible to go to the embassy and pick up packet 3 if you have your BNK number? it is very frustrating that it's just a black hole. any tips or help would be appreciated.

GOOD LUCK EVERYONE!!

Lin,

You can try e-mailing the visa section - find and follow the present protocol for e-mail inquiries. In my wife's case it was about 4 weeks between the date that my approved I-129f petition left the NVC and the date that the IVU recognized that they'd received it.

In those days one could go to the consulate and pick up a K-visa application package, but not now as I understand it. However, most of what's in it is now posted on the embassy's web site.
