mr,

Should have done it in Bangkok - would have been quick, easy, and inexpensive there.

Yodrak

...

So, all i need is a translation of her birth certificate to english. I have a jpg image of it, and need to find out where to get this done. I tried calling some local translation services services but they were mostly for spanish (go figure).

Anyone have any reccomendations (web or brick based)?

Ken,

This has been my suspicion - the new system is for the NIV unit. Still waiting to get some reports from people who have tried things and found out for sure.

Yodrak

...

The pin system, as far as I understand and know, is only for NON-immigrant visas. K-1's are non-immigrant visas but are processed by the Immigrant Visa unit and are generally considered immigrant visas. I don't believe (but don't quote me) that paying for a pin and trying to access your case info will help for an immigrant visa case.

...

Don't waste your money on that automated system for a K1 visa. Like I said, I believe that's only for NON-immigrant visas (tourist, business, etc).

Has anyone tried contacting the embassy in Bangkok since they've set up the new visa system? I know they've got that 800 number but I've never gotten through. There used to be a regular number where you can call and find out whether your case has arrived or not. Does anyone know that number? I can't find it on the website and the general operator person that I've gotten through to doesn't speak any English. She keeps hanging up on me. I know they've got the new login system where you have to pay to get a pin number and get access to visa information. Is this really the case? We have to sign up and pay now if we just want to talk to a live person?! Someone please let me know. Thanks.

VISA APPROVED, YAHOO! I am here with Jum for a few weeks and we were approved this morning. We both got there about 6am and greeted Khun Su (who was first in line, I might add) and gave her the special document delivery. Upon entry into the Embassy, we turned in the required paperwork after Su. We waited a few hours and watched several students get their visas. Jum was called among the first K-1 applicants. One simple question:

Window 6 - Farang Male

How many times has C.J. been to Thailand?

Come pick up your visa tomorrow at 3pm.

The wait is over and one step complete, Jum and I are both very happy.

Thanks for all of the support and encouragement from everyone here. We will be celebrating in Thailand here!

C.J. & Jum (together again!)

Quick Question for anyone. Once the visa is approved, I know they say to come back the next day at 3pm. Is it possible to come another day a few days after that...at 3pm of course? Jum and I have a tight travel schedule and we would definitely not want to sacrifice losing the visa or something at this point in the journey. Any help appreciated!

C.J. & Jum

Congratulations!!!

I didn't really think much about the AOS until recently .. and yeah, I know, some of you have your AOS started before you even get the visa, right? oh well.

should have could have would have ... guess it will be cheaper to do it here now than to fly back to thailand to get it done! <which reminds me, I need to buy a lotto ticket>

With this thought in mind, can someone provide a list of documents that need to be translated for the AOS process and any other related business here in the U.S. I know there's a list in the guides somewhere which I do read very thoroughly. It's just that I haven't gotten to that part of the process yet. But while my husband is still in Thailand and has access to getting translations done, I'd like to get every document we'll ever need translated over there. I think having a list will be helpful and cost effective for others to know as well. Thanks.

ufkenmill,

Thanks for your reply. Since I have found no way to call and talk to a real person, I just decided to email the embassy. In the past, I've been able to call a regular Bangkok number (not an 800 number) and talk to an English speaking person to check on my case status or ask any kind of question. I wrote the number down somewhere but can't seem to find it anymore. Now it seems like they don't want any calls at all.

Sorry, I haven't updated my timeline yet. My husband has an interview date on March 9th but we want to reschedule it. This is why I need to get in touch with the embassy. I'm planning a trip to Thailand in April and if we can push the date a little further back to fit with my visit then I can attend the interview too. Hopefully, someone replies to my email.

Song

As far as I know the Immigration Visa (IV) unit at the embassy will not take any phone calls. The operator will forward you to their voice message system which will tell you just that. You have to email them to get a response and sometimes that doesn't even work. If you are in bangkok, they will accept walk-in's from 1-3pm mon-fri except for the last friday of the month (learned that the hard way).

Email them if NVC has already sent your case to them, which according to your timeline they have. Their email is visasbkk@state.gov

Have they scheduled an interview for you? How have you been communicating with them in the past?

Don't waste your money on that automated system for a K1 visa. Like I said, I believe that's only for NON-immigrant visas (tourist, business, etc).

I called NVC and they gave me the case number. I tried the web site and paid the 400Baht...it got me no where. It said that a K1 fiance visa interview would be scheduled by the embassy......I wasted my money but perhaps everyone else can learn from it.

I have already down loaded all the packet 3 forms and they are all filled out. Jass is going to BKK on the 14th with her forms and get her medical, police report and pay the visa fee at the post office.

I was hoping that we could get an appointment as quickly as possible. Apparently the procedure is for her to MAIL in the checklist and Ds-230 part 1, unsigned, after receiving the packet 3 in the mail.

Is leaving the DS-230 Part 1 unsigned something new? Does it make sense to you people?

I would like to mail it in as soon as possible to get an appointment date....Question is when is the right time? Sure i could wait for the packet 3 to be sent in the mail but i am , of course, trying to shave off as much time as possible. I was hoping that i could call the embassy and when they told me they had the case we could mail in the checklist and Ds-230 part 1.

Thanks for your help

Congratulations on the approval. Can I ask you what the deal was with the doctor's clearance letter? C is getting her medical on friday here in Chiang Mai, what letter are you talking about?

Thanks and congratulations again...

The Dr did not include all the clarence letters needed in the package he sent with Su. The embassy did the interview with out it. So once the Dr sends over the missing parts she can pick up the visa. Not a real big problem.

Song,

Your husband should contact the consulate about rescheduling the interview - it's his visa application, his interview.

If I were he and you, I would go ahead with the interview as scheduled. If he puts the interview off until you are there, and any issues come up that take time to resolve, you could find yourself going home alone with him following later, alone. It may not happen often, but it can and does happen.

Yodrak

Mike,

Where have you seen or heard that DS-230-I is to be sent un-signed?

The 'right time' to submit DS-230 and the checklist certification statement is when the approved petition has been received by the IV unit at the consulate.

Finally got my interview date of April 4. I'm one of the new procedures of having it mailed in to get the scheduled interview date. Since my fiance has already finished everything, medical, police etc. this will be a long wait for us. I have all my documents finished as well but I am going to do them over to get a closer date to the interview i.e., I-134 notorized, bank letter etc.

Also I don't believe we ever got the packet they were supposed to send my fiance in the mail from the embassy is that going to be a problem, is there any documents in there needed for the interview that I don't already have or can get?
