TB Skin Tests

Okay ... I have limited time to utilize our medical system and I have just found out that they do the chest xray at the medial but to adjust status they are now requiring a TB skin test to be done. If I ran to a lab and had it done and took the paperwork down with me would they accept the information not done by a certified US civil surgeon?

I made this inquiry to a Civil Surgeon and was told that they would accept the results. The local health department will not do the TB test if you tell them it's for Immigration, however IF someone was to say that it was a request for a job, then the same results could be taken to the CS and they will accept them.

a skin TB test takes a few days!! Go in and get pricked one day, then come back 2 days later so they can varify the results!!

Requiring TB test? this is the first I've heard of it--Pras did AOS last October, and we didn't need to do TB test.

Yeah, it's "new requirements" though there's no consistency. For example, there are plenty of K1 > AOS who got transferred to CSC and approved without interview who were not required to supply TB skin test results. But there are recent interviewees (both K1 & K3 > AOS) who were asked to supply it.

Some civil surgeons in the U.S. will not transfer someone else's (i.e., health department) TB skin test results.

One recent interviewee was told by her interviewer that it's because of the dude who brought back TB from Europe.

Let me clarify my comment....I didn't pay atention to which forum I was in...I was referring to AOS and not the inital interview at the consulate........SORRY for any confusion

My Doctors office can't get me in until Monday .. I'm off to Montreal Tuesday Wednesday and my Doctors away Thursday Friday and I'll be picking up my UHaul Monday and leaving Tuesday (fingers crossed) .. I'll just file the paperwork without the tb test and get it done in case they rfe me for it once I'm in the States. Least amount of stress route lol.

When does one find out whether they want this or not and if they do require it where do I get it done at and what's the cost on this one . They just seem to keep throwing something out there with every step of this procedure

I may have read this wrong are we talking AOS or the interview stage in MTL

Through your doctors office ... they ####### your arm and two days later check to see if there is a raised bump like a mosquito bite ... very simple.

There's an interesting difference between the Tb-related instructions for Panel Physicians, who give the visa medical exams overseas, and the instructions for Civil Surgeons, who give the medical exams here in the USA for adjustment of status.

Panel physicians are required to take a chest x-ray, and if the person has indications of Tb from either their physical appearance or the x-ray then a sputum smear test is required.

Civil surgeons are required to do a tuberculin skin test, and if there is a positive reaction then they must follow up with a chest x-ray. The civil surgeon must read the skin test (which would be unambiguous if the instruction didn't follow that statement with a parenthetical note that says self reports of the reaction are not acceptable).

Being I'm K-1 and won't require a full medical from the US Civil Surgeon other than the signing of the Vaccination supplement Will I still need this new TB test requirement for AOS, and if so do I have to have the result before I can send in the AOS forms? I plan on beating the July 30 fee increases if possible

Allie, you can send the AOS without it.

Like I mentioned, we haven't seen any consistency with this "new requirement" for the TB skin test for K1s or K3s at the AOS stage. There are recent approvals through CSC (without interview) that were never asked for it. There are some interviewees who were never asked for it either but there is a recent crop here of interviewees who were asked for it at the interview.
