Even if Zimbabwe is not at the level of Nigeria in terms of fraud, I still think it is foolish to marry on the first visit.

Also:

We are only accepting applications from people in Zimbabwe at this time. Only people in Zimbabwe can apply for a U.S. visa in Zimbabwe, and others should reach out to the U.S. Embassy or Consulate closest to their place of habitual residence.

The consulate in Zimbabwe is very much doing interviews.  I would think the SA consulate would have similar guidelines about interviews for non-residents.  Most US consulates do not allow consulate-shopping as a way to circumvent interview queues.

You suggested OP may be able to interview at the South Africa consulate.

Zimbabwe might have moved their interviews to South Africa and it is my understanding the consulate there is very friendly.

Two members with partners from Nigeria are planning to interview in SA.

I didn't suggest OP move the interview to SA I remarked the latest interview from the Zimbabwe timeline took place in SA.

I then posited Zimbabwe might be diverting their interviews to SA as Johannesburg deals with several countries in the Southern African region.

See this post for reference:

Before that the last K1 interview from the Zimbabwe timeline was in 2019. Another couple has a timeline from 2021 but no update since May.

For IR1/CR1 last interview took place May 2021. Didn't go into their comment history though.

Good to know Zimbabwe is still scheduling interviews. Not a lot of data coming from VJ.

There are many stories on VJ of issues with approval for African countries where the couple marries upon first meeting.

North Africa and Nigeria yes.  Assuming this couple can get another visit in and assuming they initially spend three months together my call is this couple will be fine.

North/South are different worlds.

Don't you know Africa is a country. And all Africans are viewed under the same lens. :girlwerewolf2xn:

I was under the assumption VJ was a place to procure accurate information about the visa process. But, apparently not.

The latest member with a Zimbabwean partner went through the SA consulate and they weren't flagged even though they filed the K1 after 1 visit and only had a total of 2 visits.

They haven't been approved yet but that's because they're waiting on a police certificate. All the reviews out of Harare and Johannesburg seem to be fairly positive.

I don't think it's smart to marry or file after the first visit but that's a personal opinion I have on relationships not on the immigration process.

We don't warn people from Canada about the process in Juarez because both consulates are in North America . We shouldn't be warning low fraud countries about fraud just because they're interviewing in one of the 54 countries in Africa.

Nice comments.  I never referred to Africa as a "country."

Good to know that K-1s from Zimbabwe who met online and have one visit will not face the same level of scrutiny as Nigeria or Northern African countries.

*Oh, and maybe ask to speak to the manager, or for your money back?  😉
