Got to say I love it. I don't think it's a put down to a religion, just those that use a religion as an excuse to destroy. It's about time we, as Americans stood up and said what we feel; stop worrying about offending someone. If you live in this country and want to complain about it, LEAVE..........

I for one dont believe that terrorist only live in the Middle East...some of them live in Washington DC...and Islam is not the only religion used as an excuse to kill the masses...Our very Christian president has mentioned his religion time and again in referring to himself as "doing Gods work"....so Islamic terrorists blow people up thinking Jehenah is waiting for them and President Bush sends in the troops to help destroy Iraq and kill a whole lotta innocents believing Jesus dies for him so he gets a fast track to Heaven....I see no difference except that some terrorists wear turbans and sprout beards while others wear suits and sprout two faces...

I know this is a blast from the past, but I can't help commenting. I know one poster linked to the Snopes article. I just wanted to point out again that this wasn't written by a housewife from New Jersey. It was written by Doug Patton, a columnist and political speechwriter who ended his original article with, "I don't give a sheet either about all those sheet heads." A few bits at the end of the version posted here were also tacked on later as it made the viral e-mail rounds.

I don't agree with the original post, but everyone has a right to their opinion. However (and this is not directed at the OP), what truly offends me is when someone plagiarizes and alters an original work by a professional writer, takes out the most distasteful (and bigoted) bits to make it more palatable for the mainstream, credits it to "the woman next door" to make it more personal, and then propagates it by e-mail for the sake of stirring our emotions. Why can't a person's opinion and argument stand alone if they are that compelling? Why couldn't we just read Doug Patton's original article and take it at face value? Are we not bright enough to look at the whole picture, including the true source, and decide for ourselves? Canned laughter on a TV sitcom does not induce me to laugh, and knowing someone changed the facts about the origin of a piece to appeal more to the gut rather than the brain just makes me feel manipulated and less likely to listen to that point of view, at least from that source.

I do know that viral e-mails tend to take on a life of their own and that the OP just passed along something they agreed with. I'm not arguing with anyone here. I just think we as a society would make more progress if we spent more time thinking for ourselves and less time jumping on sensationalist bandwagons at either extreme -- and I'm as guilty of that as anyone.

But that would defeat the whole purpose of selling an glossy opinion package. Being bright is just annoying if it means you don't agree You should just accept others peoples attempts of thought, and ask no questions.

Source criticism should go hand in hand with learning how to research topics in school. Thinking on your own, and all that.
