Hello, I am new to VJ. I just had a couple of questions. I filed I-130 for my husband who’s currently in Jamaica & it was received June 21st, 2021, then actively reviewed January 26th, 2022. It was originally at the Nebraska Service Center, then got transferred to Texas. We’ve been together 3 years, married for a little over a year.
First question, how can I (if I can) have a joint bank account here in the states with him not being able to obtain a social security number just yet? So, we can have more together than just the house we built in JA. (In Jamaica, it’s different than the states on things like this. Plus, we built it on his family’s land, so no paperwork or anything. It’s not required), so having joint things together is kinda difficult right now. So, I’m not sure of any other ways to run any other things jointly together to help our case. If anyone can shed some light or give me any ideas, that would be extremely helpful! Or maybe some things we could potentially do when I** go to Jamaica as I go many times during the year. We began adding me to his bank account there the time before last that I went, but I didn’t have the required documentation as it was a last minute thing & just decided to go to the bank & see what could possibly be done. So, if anyone has any other recommendations, I’m all ears!

Second question, is there any sort of way to maybe find out which month a service center is currently working on per whatever petition is filed (in my case // I-130 not filed concurrently)..? Or at least get a round-about-answer as to where they’re at with reviewing said petitions..?? Of course, I know patience is the key here. But, going through this is already hard enuff missing your spouse and dealing with the anxiety and wondering if you’re doing it correctly & what not.  Thanks for any help!

You might find this helpful re: processing times for Texas.

You can also go to the Immigration Timelines link and search by Texas SC and NOA2 to see recent approvals.

I think there are some who would, you have to call around or go in and ask. Big banks like Citi or Chase won’t, maybe try smaller/local banks. Another idea is to add him to your credit cards, you don’t seem SSN for most.

For people who have not yet lived together in the same country, comingling of finances is not expected.  Concentrate on providing evidence of your many trips and time spent together in person.  Pages with passport stamps, and/or boarding passes are the primary evidence of that.  Photos together are secondary but also good.  Sound like you've had quite a bit of time together already, so no worries.  That's the strongest relationship evidence ANYBODY can provide.

Facts are cheap...knowing how to use them is precious...

USCIS docent expect you to have commingling of finances if you live in two different countries.  He will have the opportunity to open a bank account when he arrives in the states.  You can add him as an authorized user to your cards before he gets here but not really necessary.  Just ensure you maintain your evidence going forward.  Im at the end of my immigration journey and my spouse and I do not have any joint bank accounts or credit cards or bills in my name.  We only have a Costco membership together and an authorize user in a credit card. and I'm on his medical, dental and vision insurance and also we have life insurance policies since I arrived in 2018.

My only concern was you building the house on his family property.  You won't have any claim to the that as its not your land and I wonder if you guys drafted a legal document establishing owner ship of the property and had it notorized by the JP in Jamaica and had it filed with the appropriate agency there.
