Hello Everyone

Robert here. Thank you to everyone for the invaluable information posted here, it's a real help and support.

I have my fiance visa interview at the London embassy mid-March to hopefully be able to join my American fiancee soon. A simple question: I have all the required documents, but I'm surprised there's no request to see my bank statements and other information regarding my financial status. Would it be a good idea to take this along anyway with the requested tax returns? It's more a case I'm concerned I've missed something along the way and that I need to supply this. Just thought too, I have the document list that came with the embassy letter, yet there's no mention of the tax returns. I'm sure I read they were required somewhere else.

Clarification much appreciated.

Many thanks

Robert

That would only be relevant if you intend to self sponsor. Otherwise it is all down to the USC

Your financial documents are not needed since you are not self-sponsoring.

Many thanks Boiler and Crazy Cat for instant replies. Great! Does that mean I DON'T need to supply the tax returns?

Your UK tax returns and finances are not needed to be granted a K1 visa. You need a sponsor such as your American fiancé to complete an affidavit of support (I-134) and prove their income. The fiancé’s tax return is one way to prove income.  If your fiancé does not have sufficient income, you can get a joint sponsor or sponsor yourself.

That's so good. Many thanks Wuozopo. I have my fiancee's I-134 so looks like we're up and running! I'll report back on how the interview goes.

Many thanks again.

Best way to do this is to complete your profile timeline

it gets real important for the next step (the AOS process after marriage in the US)

many VJ members look to timelines when answering questions like "How long queries?"

Your overseas income is (zero) for US immigration purposes.  Your sponsor’s income (I134) is the only documented income they will wish to see.

Thank you, Ian88, I'm waiting on this in the post now. I understand it has to be an original. A signed and scanned copy won't do?

Doesn't have to be an original - my fiance signed it and made a digital copy for me to print off.

That's so helpful and reassuring. Thank you.

I have another question for you. I'm seeing a lot of posts about evidence of relationship. Photos apparently are not good evidence apparently, but receipts, flight invoices etc are, which is a bit baffling. We have some good photos from four separate visits, and flight evidence, but I just didn't think to keep receipts from restaurants etc. I don't really see how these are evidence of being together. How critical might this be at the London embassy. Oh, and would it be a good idea to put together a document of Whatsapp conversation screenshots?

I took a few photos and the likes and they didn't even look at them. Here's my post after the interview:

"I had my interview today. They required Passport, One Passport Photo (US Size), ARCO Police Report, Birth Certificate, I-134 Form and Sponsor Information, and a letter of Intent to Marry from my Fiancée. That was all they required. Passport and I-134 is retained. Was literally over in about 5 minutes - took me longer to get through security on the way in."

The interview was literally nothing to worry about - if you are in a genuine relationship then it's easy. I was asked how we met, where my Fiancée works, what our wedding plans are, and when was the last time we met in person. Just answered them honestly and they approved my visa on the spot. Passport was mailed back about a week or so later and I flew out the next day.
