Why is it so difficult to get married in Saudi Arabia anyway?

Something to do with the bride had to have a male relative physically present in the Sharia court in Saudi Arabia in order to get married. She was alone, and she only has one male relative in Florida who was physically unable to fly to Saudi Arabia to be present for her to get married.

As said by others it seems online marriage is not recognized in Florida that would mean uscis will not recognize the marriage as legal. If both are in Saudi Arabia at present, may be best is to do the utah proxy marriage.

Here's the potential problem.

The religious officiant has the legal power to marry people according to Florida's laws.  He doesn't have legal power to marry people outside of Florida.  This marriage was never registered in Florida.  It was registered in Saudi Arabia where the religious officiant does not have the legal power to officiate marriages.

A Utah Zoom wedding is legal because it can be registered with the State of Utah.

This marriage was never registered in Florida.  So how is it legal?  Under what laws is it legal?

This was not a legal marriage

Originally thought they had it officiated in a state where proxy marriages are legalized.  As it turns out the ?Imam? officiated an illegal ceremony.

Wow what a mess

The couple needs to be legally and lawfully married before starting any visa process.  Unfortunately, being too married for a fiancee visa and not married enough for a spouse visa, is an actual thing.

Couldn't they just resolve this by doing a Utah by proxy marriage?

Yes, if she was still in Saudi.  Otherwise, there would need to be a fresh visit after the Utah Zoom marriage.
