If he's feeling fearful about moving here, or upsetting his mom by doing so, or whatever his issue is, maybe therapy can help him overcome the obstacle. I'd be supportive of his effort since it shows that he really is trying.

Yeah I'm gonna whinge about the weather, too - I mean, hello? Its JULY! And its COLD! And I have to wear a JACKET when I go out!?

My SO calls me in the middle of the night because its too hot and humid in the Chicago burbs for her to sleep!

Yeah, cooking for one. Its too much effort. Take-out it is, again, then.

"nasi goreng" - sounds like a Welsh delicacy..?

An indonesian one, I believe.... very yummy, anyway, wish I knew how to make it! :)

Gaaahhh!! What does he expect whiny emails to achieve? Shouldn't he be jumping on the first available flight if he wants to impress upon you his non-wishy-washiness?!

Agreed. Sounds like he is scared H_A will tell him where to go if he just turns up. But sometimes (in fact most times) actions speak louder than words.

I need a job. I'm so sick of looking! :(

Poor D. :(

I'm utterly terrified of the day when I actually get my EAD or green card and can then start jobhunting - haven't had to apply for one in, oooh, more than 9 years. I can't remember HOW!! :(

Going to therapy is most definiately a step though!

My condolences. Job hunting sucks. You must be really frustrated! I hope you find something soon.

Thanks. It's hard as I was at a senior level then went back to college in London & started at the bottom again. I have the experience but not as much recent stuff so I fall into no-man's job land, too much experience for a junior job yet not experience enough for a senior one.

Yesterday I had 3 separate interviews for a junior FREELANCE position at a major studio! Two hours total for that!?!?

Plus they all wanna know why did you get a degree in stonecarving?

To be honest I actually think him just being away from his mother would do the trick. If he got to the USA, and if H_A was willing to accept him, he might be a different bloke. Maybe...

Sure, but baby steps, right? ;)

The thing is, if you have a very controlling parent it can be very difficult to do just that. Therapy can help you see that as an adult you have the right and the ability to do what you think is best for you. For someone who has been browbeaten his/her whole life, this can be a very difficult concept to embrace, hence therapy seems like a good solution. Of course, this is just MHO.

I'm the same, me and my fiancée have been together years, just got the visa in hand. My parents are worried about me, her parents are worried about her and we are worried about each other and "disaster" situations. I guess some people are like that, TimsDaisy will tell you I am a worry wort!

If i was living in certain places of the world, It would be easier to say "yeah, you are definately doing the right thing for a better lifestyle!" . I know exactly how you feel, we both want a crystal ball to tell us "its gonna be great in 5 years!"

I wouldnt say our parents are controlling, but they are very, very concerned. Hers really didnt want her to come here, mine are worried about me if i go there about employment, friends, family, learning how things **are done** in the US (taxes/home buying/pensions)

I guess the thing is, we both have good lives in our own countries. No disrespect to some of the other countries represented on VJ, but as easily as I can go there, she could come here and we'd have a great shot at a great life either way.

Both our parents know that we have a lot going for us, and would feel more "secure" in each of us staying in our own country and supporting the other one in their move.
