where is AOS package sent to?

someone posted in another thread that the I-485 was sent to the closest district office.

however, in the VisaJourney step-by-step guide to filing for AOS, it states:

Note: When filing for Adjustment of Status K1 and K3 Visa holders are now required to submit their paperwork to the National Address (Chicago Lockbox) instead of at their local CIS office. This procedure became effective for all applicants in April 2005.

so, which is it? is everything sent to Chicago and then then sent it to your local office?

You need to send it to Chicago, they do the initial processing, and then they send it to your district office for the rest of the process. Read the instructions on the form itself, it has all the information you need. Make sure your forms are updated, it's better to download them from the uscis.gov website for that reason.

You have to mail everything to Chicago lockbox... not your local office..

USCIS pass it on to local office when its time for your interview...
