As long as it’s $10,000 or less, it is fine, nothing is needed. If above $10,000 it is also fine, but additional paperwork (declaration) is needed. Failure to declare above $10,000 is both risky and dumb, it’s not like they are going to tax you on it!

No I understand that. I read that they asked if the person arriving has cash or credit cards even if it's not over 10,000 when they go to customs. I'm not sure if this is just for visitors or if it's for K1 applicants

The $10,000 rule applies to everyone, US citizens, visitors, green card or K1 alike.

She won't be denied entry even if she were to show up with greater than $10k, just more paperwork.  If CBP does ask, she needs to respond truthfully whatever the amount is.  Btw, back in 2014 when my now wife entered on her K1, that was not one of the questions.

Good Luck!

$200 is like pocket money, you don't even need to tell anyone. She won't be denied entry even if she arrives with $200,000 as long as she declares on the custom form how much she is bringing.

Spouse:

2015-08-17: I-130 approved

2016-07-07: AOS and IV Package mailed

2016-08-08: Case Complete

2017-06-30: Interview, approved

2017-07-04: Visa in hand

No.  IMO, $200 is a perfect amount for a new immigrant to bring.  It is enough to cover long layovers or delayed flights.  I would never carry anywhere close to $10,000 in cash on me through an airport.  Electronic funds transfer is much more reasonable for bringing large amounts of money, imho.

Just my opinion.

Thank you!

If she arrives with zero dollars she won’t be denied entry.  For the next 90 days the petitioner (the primary financial sponsor) and any other joint financial sponsor are responsible for her financial needs.

I think the OP is asking if there is a minimum amount of money required to enter.  The answer is no.  Sometimes CBP may ask tourists how they are going to finance their trip if they state they want to visit for several months.  Or personal finances can be asked during the B1/B2 interview.  But there is no requirement to carry an actual minimum dollar amount.

The only time I read about someone denied entry by CBP for a K1 was when the person was asked they were going to marry and the person responded "maybe we will, maybe we won't".
