You mean the same situation as the Afghans granted special visas or P2 refugee admission?  So did your MIL or an immediate family member work for the US government or a US government-affiliated agency in the Ukraine?  Or does she or a family member have documented evidence of employment related to the fight against the Taliban or any group that would make her at risk of being persecuted by the Russians due to her collaboration with the US government?

I wouldn't count on it. I've seen no news at all on the embassy or ustraveldocs anywhere that the US government is making it easier for Ukrainians right now. No official action seems to have been taken on this at all by the US government, other than saying "We stand with Ukraine." I find it extremely bizarre, since the DoS was saying they knew Russia was going to invade and had all this intel, and now it seems they had zero plans whatsoever to actually help Ukrainian refugees once that happened.

 

Was she able to make it to Germany? At this point I would trust European countries more and they should be easier to get to.

Seems that in this case the OP is sponsoring his wife, she is not in the US I think yet so even more confusing.

I was referring to the MIL who supposedly had an easy route to Germany before. In any case, I wouldn't wait for the US, those who can make it to Europe should try to do so if they fear for their safety.

Every situation is unique. In this case, my MIL is a citizen of a country that gave up 1900 nuclear weapons under a vague promise of support from the USA, Britain and ironically Russia. Give that Biden is releasing thousands of "refugees" into the interior every month, it seems reasonable that he can figure out how to help the families of American citizens. In this case, Jenny and her mom are hiding in the basement as Nikolaev is once again under attack.

It is not my intention to argue the politics of the situation nor to dispute that your family is in danger.  You asked a question that alluded to the case of the Afghan refugees.  I was just pointing out that Afghans who were granted special admission still had to fulfill certain criteria to qualify for that privilege, such as having documented evidence that they were employed by the US government or a US-affiliated entity.  For those who do not meet the criteria, there is the normal asylum process, humanitarian parole, or the UN refugee program that others have discussed above.

HP is supposedly backed up right now due to the Afghan crisis so don't expect any overnight miracles.
